Solon, I always enjoy your videos - and you are right that they give us a lot to talk about. I have been playing with cars for almost 50 years and one thing that hasn't really changed is how many people claim low original miles 25k, 87k, 60k - and they never seem to notice the older cars only have a five digit odometer. I have looked at many thousands of cars, I've been to more than 1,000 car shows. Very few claimed low mileage cars pass scrutiny. Now I realize you are reading those ads as written, and many of those sellers are just repeating what was told to them by the previous seller. With these lower prices I don't really care if the seller is embellishing the details. This is just for fun and the cars will be sold mileage exempt because of age. The Ranchero 500 was super nice, and I thought the use of VW Beetle front fenders on the last rat rod was very creative.
@Americanrodshop2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! You are spot on, Thomas! You are probably going to have to add an extra 100,000 miles to some of these, but I try to take people at their word, so if they say whatever the mileage is, that is what I go with! Great insight, brother!
@Thomas63r22 ай бұрын
@@Americanrodshop Yes, at least another 100k or 200k or more. Modern cars force more honesty about miles, but its always been true that a well cared for car can have several hundred thousand miles and still look good. I've talked with classic car appraisers and they have told me that almost all claimed low mileage classics have seen one or more flips of their odometer. They do find legitimate low mileage cars, but they say that is a much smaller percentage of cars being sold as low miles. I was into Corvettes for a while, and there was this guy known as the Corvette detective. He had been tracking Corvettes at auctions and classic car and specialty dealers for decades. He kept records by vin of how they were equipped and optioned, paint and trim. He often found cars "losing" miles. As the years went by he also found many small blocks sprouted an "original" big block, many carbureted engines became "original fuelies." Fun fact, there are now so many really good fake L88 Corvettes out there (with fake documents, fake aged tank stickers, fake restamped blocks, etc.) that there are now more L88 Corvettes than Chevrolet ever produced! Like I said, when the price is low I really don't care if the seller is not being completely honest with the miles - they may even be mindlessly repeating what they were told when they bought the car.

The people interested in those old cars is getting less every day because what is built today for the most part is safer, more dependable, more powerful, more comfortable and better quality. I'm 57 and had a 1973 Camaro, 1971 Pontiac Ventura, 1968 Impala all 2 doors with V 8's. And I am not interested in reliving those days of constant service and patching up oil leaks.

Rat Rod - I love that rig, but one thing should be noted. The Valvoline cans. As of 2022 that company was bought by Aramco (spelling probably wrong). That is the royal family of Saudi Arabia. The timing is interesting--that was after the Saudis paid Jerad Kushner about 3 billion to "invest.". The guy is a business failure, just like his dad, but 3 billion can buy a lot of arm-candy and yachts. Why did they choose him and right at that time? Just so happens his father in law had a bunch of top secret documents sitting around. Stuff so secret the government won't even list what they were. It is also known that Trump had no authority to take those documents, but I personally doubt they were bathroom reading material. Yes, all speculation on part, but the timing for the Saudis to spend that much money is very interesting. First thing I do with those barrels, replace they with something that will better protect the driver and passenger from being victim to all that fine horsepower while not advertising for the Saudis to get more fun money for their "investor".

Classic cars from the 40's, 50's and 60's will continue to drop because the people who collected these cars (Babyboomers) are dying off. Therefore, these car values drop due to very low demand. But, the cars from the 80's and 90's are skyrocketing because Gen-X and Millennials are going through nostalgia. The same will happen to the 2000s cars.
