Hi Eli. For Kate's next lesson, please teach her how to harden off greenhouse seedlings ready for the garden, so that I can learn too.🌱 I always find the hardening off malarky confusing. 😢I am looking forward to the video you promised re sowing tomatoes to grow outdoors as I plan to grow along with you.🍅 Hint, hint.

"I'm a tidy gardener, I don't like being dirty!!" How cute is that!! 😁I am a badger myself but I do tidy up after so it looks nice. Kate you are well on your way to being a very good plant mama. Eli is a very good teacher. ☺ I think you gave it away when you said the next thing to learn is hardening off the plants. 🤔 There is watering and feeding in between but they won't be in the pots too long before they go out. No matter what you share next it will be a joy to watch.

I’m freaking out of where all these up potted plants will go😅. I’m trying to rob the 2” pots from other up potted plants for the peppers. I’ve use cement blocks to create a shelf above floor and now looking at potting bench. It is SO cold here and for about 4 days And Then Hopefully it will turn normal spring temperatures. We here in Wisconsin, US are sick of it. Our local winery said because of the one week of heat it forced buds on grapes and now they froze. That is what I’m concerned about. I see you have a side extension to GH. I think I will build a cold frame this year and high tunnel area for next year. I changed out plastic for frost cloth on onions, but I don’t know, I just hope it doesn’t get too cold the next couple of nights-fingers crossed.

Ditto on this being a fun video! You can bet I'll be "trying this at home." I loved Kate's spade, and my goodness, she's a natural. What's next for her? Grafting or hand pollination sounds good. (She's capable!) But seriously, direct sowing seeds, transplanting perhaps; she might enjoy deciding on what plants to combine or otherwise designing a patch of her own. Maybe offer her some choices for what to do next... Again, the girl's a natural!

Great teamwork, ladies! 👌 After all these years I'm still loathe to "kill the babies" - hence trying to manage my overflowing 'orphanages' until placements! 😵‍💫 i found that most of the time i used the three finger method to handle them : go over the top and close in with fingers slightly apart creating a small space - large enuff that the seedling doesn't fall through. No squishing, no falling from the first leaf coming of the stem mid lift. Each to their own style of pricking out! Good job Kate - watch out for an added " honey do" list! 😂

Another wonderful video. So I tried earlier this week to "prick out" mines but the roots are all bound and matted. No idea what to do with it, I just plant it as one clump hopefully one survive. ;) Average frost date 18 of may? Wonderful day as it is my birthday, ours in the nl is slightly earlier I think 15 may.

UGH ! Memories of having to prick out hundreds and hundreds of petunia seedlings a day and we had to be fast . give me plug plants any day theyre much easier .the boss had us planting the tiniest of ones she wouldnt throw any away , but we did crush some of them when she werent looking . its nice now i can just potter and have a brew at the same time .

I'm worried about pricking out my little Kiwi plants. I've grown them from (store bought fruit) seed and some have got their lovely jagged true leaves... but they are still quite small. I'm not sure if I should let them continue growing in their little group for a bit longer (they aren't going yellow yet)... or perhaps separate them and pot them on? Great work on your plants Kate (and Eli of course).
@eliandkate
@eliandkate Жыл бұрын
If they are super small but showing signs of nutrient deficiency then you could use a liquid fertiliser just to get them through until they are big enough to handle
@cpoco

@@eliandkate I'll keep an eye on them... I have some others that aren't as developed (from the same batch of seeds)... so I could try one lot and save the other. :)

General hardening off is to gradually acclimatise plants to the new area a little every day until they can be out there full time (usually takes a week or two). This might help kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2mkc4SFfqmHi8U

This video couldn't have been more timely....I started pricking out and potting on. Can I ask a non-related question? I planted onion sets last autumn and they've grown really well but.....some of them have a stem with a thing on the top. Are they sick and can I eat them? Thanks 👍
@eliandkate
@eliandkate Жыл бұрын
It’s hard to tell without seeing them, but it sounds like bolting although it’s really early for them to bolt. Have a google and see if that looks like it. If they have bolted them they will stop producing the actual onion, you can still use them like spring onions, they just won’t get bigger or store
@davegilford1257
@davegilford1257 Жыл бұрын
@@eliandkate Looked up bolting and yes, you're right ☹️. Looks like I've got an awful lot of spring onions to eat over the next few days. It might be early because I live in NW Turkey and our springs are a fair bit warmer than yours. Thanks for your help and keep up the good work x
