I found out the origin of the Bridgemen Shuffle thanks to former Bridgemen instructor Bob Dubinski. The composer of this beat is Pat Scollin and the actual title is "Carnavalito" which was taken from a tune by the band "Caldera". Thanks for the info Bob!

natejones5 The theory is that the slots help a little with projection and lets the drum 'cut' through the hornline more. lots of arguments abound as to how effective it really is. It's actually an old concept...Ludwig made a snare called the 'HV" with these slots back in the 1980's. There's a guy in New Orleans that does the shells for them now.
