Pride of Bilbao last sailing

For anyone who is interested, our Billy is still operating but now in Italy. Despite being nearly 40 years old, she'd probably in the best condition she's ever been since leaving the Baltic in 1993. P&O crucified our ship. Maintenance? Pah, why bother when you can spaff money up the wall over at Dover. It was said there were three Navies: The Royal Navy, the British Merchant Navy and the P&O Navy. Their crews were so proud of their ships. Not now and deservedly so. It will never recover from the deeble years.

It's interesting to watch this 12 years on. P&O gave all the reasons under the sun why their services could not be made viable. Yet Brittany Ferries is running a nearly double schedule on the same route. Of course, Brittany didn't have the twin problems of helen deeble as ceo and dubai ports asset stripping them.

I remember going on The Pride of Bilbao in the 90s with some ferry enthusiasts to Bilbao The lady who is be interviewed in this I have met when I to Bilbao She was a very nice lady

I think Paul Clifton summed up the sorry story very neatly. P&O was once a great company but they truly lost their way. Look where they are now; since Portsmouth was abandoned the Liverpool operation closed last year and there are only three passenger routes left in their network.

We went from Portsmouth to bilbao in the late 1980s. P&O packaged it as a 3 day mini cruise. It was fantastic. There were several restaurants, nightclub, hairdressers, shops, indoor pool etc. We saw dolphins 🐬 from the top deck or from one of the posh restaurants. It was incredible of it's time. There was a very glamorous staircase in the main foyer by the shops. It's a shame it's gone but we had a fantastic break away. I can't see how it's now spoken about as being a car ferry as it really was luxury in the 80s

@@hellooohowareudoing Was there not a Billy crossing from Southampton previously? Most people tell you that Brittany ran the first UK-Spain crossing but I am absolutely certain that P&O were there well before. They were the PENNINSULAR and Orient after all. I must find that out.

I've never seen a dolphin across Biscay & I'm hopefully crossing it again in May from Plymouth - Santander 🙂

I recall seeing Dolphins, food was good, best entertainment was late night. Was Starlight express on our crossing.
