Using my new (old) Prideaux Cartridge Packet Holder for the rimmed .455 Webley line of revolvers. Unfortunately, I picked this one up without a handle, but fortunately, a friend fabricated one for me! Thanks S! #WebleyFosbery

That looks so much smoother and easier to use than many of the speed loaders out today.

Cheaper also

I think the Safariland speedloaders are a spiritual ancestor mainly because they have that internal release so all you have to do is just press firmly and it drops the cartridges automatically. The HKS speed loaders require you to release the cartridges manually by turning the locking knob.

I'd actually love to see a speed comparison between the Prideaux loader and modern speedloaders. For science and totally not because I want more content with these wonderful things

I wish modern top breaks existed. Absolutely would love something in .38 special or .327. And that speed loader is seriously cool.

A modern top break with, say, eight rounds of .327 Federal and cut for moon clips, sounds fantastic.

Top break actions are quite weak. That hinge will blow the top open with high pressure/magnum cartridges. Unless a stronger, much, betterly designed locking mechanism can be devised, then we are going to wait a while for someone to make one and put it in a revolver.
@EricDaMAJ Жыл бұрын
They are for .357 magnum and .44 magnum. But .38 Special and .327 magnum should be manageable if not loaded too hot. I have a replica Schofield in .45 Long Colt that works just fine.

That speed loader is seriously fast (and simpler to use than modern ones). This top break, auto eject mechanism in a modern revolver (with a Prideaux style speed loader) would be an interesting carry weapon for people who prefer revolvers to semi-autos.

How do I get a world of Webley aficionados to hate themselves for a good solid week? Well, let’s see: I have a Fosbery AND a Prideaux loader; a nice long, well-detailed video showing use and shooting should do the trick. But seriously, I’m enjoying the depression. Excellent exhibition video of a fine pair made in shooting heaven.

Ngl, ever since learning about the Prideaux speed loader I've been obsessed and am rearing for the day I can afford commissioning someone to make a bunch of them for me. Functions so much cooler and intuitively than modern speed loaders AND is a unique piece of WWI history! Wonder if they could be made for larger calibers and still retain their function...
@123asap6 Жыл бұрын
In theory they can work. However the main gripe with that might be when you start to get into magnum territory where the longer cartridges would require a longer prong which makes for a bulkier speed loader. However for the shorter stuff like 38 spl (especially the micro HST) i can really see how a modernized pirdeaux would be an attractive option compared to the other speedloaders

All that because the arms manual said a sidearm must be a “revolver”. I’ve heard elderly British people in interviews looking at Mauser C96 Broomhandles and calling it a “revolver”. I think revolver is as synonymous with handgun to them. Very cool piece though, I’d love to shoot one.

May hate it for being over represented in media (They added it over the actual Weblry Mk. VI in Battlefield 1 at launch and that took over the spot for a swing-out cylinder revolver) but it is real pretty
