I liked when the priest said that celibacy is rather a “yes.”

Agree. People don't recognize that celibacy is a gift and all single people should be abstinent unless God calls them to Holy Matrimony

A priest marries God. He falls in love with him. So do nuns. The priesthood isn't a 'job' it's a calling. God is calling your on your love for you God, and the desire to become a priest... to be shepherd of his flock, and watch over the flock. A Priest serves. We need to understand the man gives up his sexuality... he doesn't loose it. he gives it to God... because of the love he has for God... the purity of God. God will lead his life to holiness. A priest gives up everything... his mother.. father... sister... brother. He gives up his will to God... who orchestrates his life to holiness. We do the same. ..we give up our will to God...who then teaches us holiness. The priest take Vows of poverty.. chastity and obedience. If you cannot accept these three vows,.... then choose another calling. Melbourne. xxx

If people do not have a spiritual vision and do not know about the divinity, love and the sacrifiés that Jesus Christ done for us they do not understand the gift of celibacy! Thank you to these faithful priests. Please pray for us. In the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. Amen 🙏

Are people that sex crazed that they can't fathom the idea of someone being celibate voluntarily? People do realize that some laypeople choose to be celibate for life? Kudos to them💘.

Why not accept both? Celibacy is a calling, not simply unmarried. Marriage is a different state of commitment that Christians are presumably called to. Each calling can be honored.

99.9 percent get married it’s not a calling only 00.1 become celibate that is a calling from creator

I thoroughly agree with these priests who speak of celibacy as giving themselves over to God and His people "with an undivided heart." When they entered the Catholic priesthood, these men knew of the seriousness of the vow of celibacy made to God.

Could you imagine a priest in court for a divorce, and a nasty one at that. Being married he cannot give the church and the sheep his undivided attention. The Holy Spirit gives them special grace for the journey.

True, but I think this video tried to explain that it is so much more than that.

Can you imagine a priest giving advice to married couples? And they do give advice, though what the heck do they know. And did you know in the past popes were married. And there are currently priests in the Roman catholic church that are married and some deacons are allowed to marry, and some are not. The rules are always changing.

Priests should always pray the Rosary every day to combat the devil

It's a supernatural gift, until it isn't. I think probably varies on the mental state. That is why it is easier for the priests that live in community.

So I could never be a priest for many reasons, but one of them is that my celibacy is not really optional and the seminary would surely tell me to 'go try dating first'. Well, that's the story of my life m8, I have Asperger's... link me up with a GOOD Catholic church/YA group and a matchmaker and maybe then we can talk, but it is not optional. I'd carry that resentment into the priesthood so no, sadly, though I want to do this, I cannot.

a priest is not a job but special call like a married person.
@annetheriault9127 Жыл бұрын
Once again -- absolutely no mention of the single vocation. Yes, we're assuming celibacy there as well; but when the Church doesn't treat it as a valid vocation, the person may stumble trying to discern what God wants of him or her. All I'm saying is that these priests have not mentioned it.

There are actually religious groups where congregation elders have a full-time job, a wife and kids and serve as pastors. The Bible says that one of the qualifications to become a shepherd is the ability to successfully run a household and that is absolutely true because a congregation made up of people who get up early and work hard is more likely to trust someone who knows what it is like to work, raise kids, deal with the challenges of being married while serving God. Such people have much greater freedom of speech when doling out advice from the platform. The idea that a Christian pastor is not supposed to be married is nowhere to be found in the scriptures. The only thing that the Bible mentiones is that an unmarried man is more "focused" on the things of the Lord but there is no such thing as a Bible command forbidding marriage for religious shepherds. A married man develops communication skills, empathy etc to a degree that a single one can hardly develop as marriage and child rearing are among the most challenging experiences in the world

Even Catholics acknowledge that celibacy is not an essential aspect of the priesthood and could theoretically change, but we would argue that it is both fitting and time-honoured nonetheless. The primary model of the value of celibacy is Jesus himself, whose entire life was lived with an undivided love for God the Father. Ever since, many Christians have sought to follow Jesus’ example by living a life of celibate chastity “for the sake of the kingdom of heaven” as a sign of their undivided devotion to the Lord and their complete willingness to serve.

In the Catholic Church, celibacy is a Church regulation, not a matter of principle. The Eastern rites in the Church have married priests, and there are also married priests in the Western right who are former Protestant ministers (and were already married). So no one is saying it is an absolute requirement for being a good pastor, just why it can be a good thing.

1 TIMOTHY 4:1-4: 1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

They have a place for celibacy too in the monastic life of monks. They just don't push it on the priests themselves which I agree makes more sense. It seems like priests could better relate to their flock as married people raising families. Monks however serve in a different role.

Do you think celibacy is the rule so the vatican doesn't have to assume financial responsibility for a priest's family if the priest die? It's always about the money folks...
