The grand irony of the episode is that it satirized how Ireland was always winning Eurovision back in the day, coming off a year where they broke a three-year winning streak by finishing fourteenth...then, come the '96 contest not too long after the episode aired, Ireland won again! (Adding to the weirdness is that the contest was rebranded as Eurosong for that year, and by utter coincidence, Ireland performed after Belgium the night of the contest. Belgium did not, however, score 103 points. Spain gave them 12 points, though!)
