Ms Kent, After viewing the video's you've brought forth for our consideration we concur that on the prima facie evidence that Mr. Alex is in fact a Professor of English vocabulary. We also perceive after viewing the evidence that Mr. Alex is retired, and continues to teach by way of on-line video's for the sheer love of teaching. Congratulations Prof. Alex, You are now in the Hall of Fame of English Professors.

Prima facie maybe used as adjective means sufficient to establish fact or raise presumption unless disproved or rebutted . In British means first sight or face of it or as appears with investigaton . Thank you for your educational channel.

Should the term be used only for investigative purposes? Or can we use this word when referring to the moment of meeting a person for the first time?

The people have a natural law prima facie case against the parliament, accusing it of tyranny, but, alas, the parliament writes the law and owns the judiciary.

So weird to pronounce “prima” as they would in Latin nations but say “facie” the British way , sounds so wrong to an Italian. Would you tell us one day why this happened in English? For example the name of plants in Latin is butchered into a English pronunciation that differs in various parts of the world. Couldn t the English speaking world give up and give Latin priority and respect the old language?

I thought about it too, and came to a conclusion that the sound of words of foreign origin in English is altered to adjust to the accent and intonation, especially intonation (many non-native speakers don't realize how important intonation is). With Italian pronunciation it would sound like another pizza recipe :) Among Roman languages Italian sounds overly melodic, like Russian among Slavic languages :)

I understand exactly what you are saying. I live in Spain and I find it impossible to say Spanish words with the English pronunciation (chorizo, Sevilla ..... I also find it impossible to say English words with the Spanish pronunciation when I am speaking Spanish.
