What a great video. I have a set of Decadent Pies; mine is several years old so the colors are somewhat different, but this was still very helpful and interesting. Your sheep is absolutely beautiful! You have such a wonderful way of making animals faces look so expressive - how could anyone resist that Mona Lisa smile?!? Thank you again for sharing your research. Cheers

Thanks so much Barb! Are the colors themselves different? I think they just renamed them 😁

I just compared them to a set i got years ago and it's just the names have been changed, same paints though. The white mocha for example is called frosting in my set and the guava meringue is praline, i guess they are trying to keep the brand fresh.
@TheSpinDoctor6 жыл бұрын
LoveArts The names are the only difference - I spent a lot of time with Prima extracting the information and verifying it all - only one paint has changed composition in the whole line. Names have changed and in the newer sets like the forest-y one etc, the paint base has changed also and is better i felt, though the very new Vintage Pastel set has gone back to the old one.
@barbhayes56136 жыл бұрын
@@InLiquidColor The numbers are the same, but i just re-swatched mine to compare with your video and I think the formulations also changed. My #34 is way closer to a sap green - more yellow than your swatch. Also, my #35 seems to have less blue than yours. It may be my computer screen causing the color shifts, but I also could not get the depth of color you got with these paints, especially the 'frosts'. Not that it matters; this is a craft-quality paint and that's what I use them for. I still like this set for quick sketches.

The Spin Doctor Hi. Having dyslexia, sometimes to me comments say something different than in reality. When you said “Names have changed...” my brain sort of finished that thought with “...to protect the innocent”! I knew that couldn’t be correct so I read your comment a second time and really focused and it came out right. Love that you dug until you found the needed information. Can’t imagine why they don’t just list it like others do. Great job! Annie B

I have the prima decadent pies set as well. I bought it for the tin about 5 minutes before Meeden made tins affordable. My thought when I saw the texture of these paints was that the name 'pies' really fit them because they looked like the the crust the filling and the whipped topping were blended together to form the pans. Later I found I liked a few of them very well. Very accurate review!
@HandmadeByLinanne6 жыл бұрын
Worth the purchase for the palette and 12 fillable half pans alone. I do like Jane Davenport’s palette better, it’s turquoise! I was able to fit 21 half pans in it perfectly. Your reviews are always informative and honest, and watching you paint is the big bonus!

I ordered this set recently, both for the cheap paints AND the tin. My set came with different paper for the included swatch card, possibly a very thin mixed media paper, no heftier than 90lb., but it’s definitely not the weird shiny paper from before. I expected pistachio to be a green, but otherwise I love the colors in the set, and I enjoy them for experimenting, or sketchbook doodles. My Jane Davenport brights set DID come with the shiny paper, and a broken palette, too. Super disappointing, and I won’t be buying from them again.

I know this is an old video but I'm so glad I found it! I noticed the gritty/clumpiness in my Classics palette on the white and gray when I first got it but I didn't know any better as it's my first watercolor set. I stopped painting for a couple of months and picked it back up this weekend and it was even more gritty/clumpy and happening on ALL the colors. Good to know it SHOULDN'T be like that. I've ordered a different student grade palette to replace it.

"If you're looking at a key lime pie that's this color, I'd probably pass!" I paraphrased you, I'm sure but LOL. Young lady, you created a beautiful painting with these. I love it! That blue looks awesome! It's looks loosely painted with non-traditional colors, that's why you got so many responses and ... that blue! People are drawn to these type paintings (myself included). Lindsay the Frugal Crafter gets tons of comments on her colorful loose paintings in non-traditional colors, as did Steve Mitchell with his blue trees (my fav, as well) and some of his funky-colored foliage. I love the Celtic music with this. Aaww, sheep, so gorgeous!

Me, too. The paint is still in its wrappers, but the box went into use years ago. It is the best of my small tins because it holds three rows of pans and has a lip around the mixing area that prevents paint from flowing were it shouldn't. Both attributes make it superior to the empty tins on Amazon and eBay. For $14, it was a great deal.

i'd probably only use a palette like this once but i've been tempted by both this one and the pastel dreams... the themes are the main thing with these, i feel. doodle date did a video "painting pies with pie paints" and that's adorable BUT it's adorable once, so i've been disciplined and not shelled out for any of these. i made my own non-lightfast pastel palette by mixing the dye-based inks from davenport's mermaid markers into white watercolor in pans instead! makes for cute sketchbook stuff but i've used it maybe twice so i'm glad i stuck to supplies i already had to live my pastel dream. great informative video and beautiful painting as always, denise, thanks for sharing! xx

What a brilliant review of a set of paints I've been using for years. I bought into their sets early on and was disappointed by the lack of information - no pigment info, lightfast info, or even naming convention. They've obviously stepped up their game and provided a bit more than they did. For me, these paints were designed for crafters, but smart artists quickly found out that they are as good a quality and pleasant to work with as many other well-known brands. I compiled all my Prisma's into one large set and enjoyed them like crazy. The DP set is probably my favorite, just for the muted colors. As for the company, I wrote to them to complain that the shimmery colors were not activating, and they sent me another set free of charge. The new shimmery colors activated with no issues. I like the company and I like their products. You bring it all together in a beautiful demonstration of why people like me enjoy them so much! Well done! :)

Wait! there is pigment information?! thats great! :) When I first got this paint set years ago there was no info but the colours are lovely. Super useful for me when I was first starting out in watercolour. Also love how stylized your little furry animal. Oh also that pigment chunky issue will go away with time, it never happens to me now that I have been using the paint for so long. I think its something that only happens when the paint is "fresh" and new before water starts to seep in and change the block

I had bought a few of these years ago before really getting into watercolour and I recently revisited the sets and threw them out immediately, I kept the metal tins they came in but the paints are utter crap. The colours easily became muddled together and it was hard for me to work with. I think it's just because I understand colour theory so well, as I have to for the career paths I have chosen, that when mixing to create my own colours is just so natural to me and to just pick up a colour straight out of the pan, seems strange to me.

im probably gonna get alot of shit for this but i thought i'd just say what i think about this chanel as a whole,as i have watched a fair few of this chanels videos. i seem to find that you tend to focus on the negitives on each pallet you reveiw,i believe that this tends to discourage beginners or even artists that are researching certain brands to decide wether to buy them or not. most beginners might not search other reveiws and just go with yours,which quite frankly only focuses on the negitives and not the positives. to improve your reveiw videos i believe that before going on a tangent about all the negitives on thte pallet you could instead balance the negitives and positives for example you could talk about a positive then a negitive then a positive etc,you could also recommend each pallet acording to each group of people who might enjoy it,for example if you get a pallet with a range of earthy tones you could recomend it to people who paint alot of landscapes etc
@onemig005 жыл бұрын
I get what you're trying to say but ms.denise is already a professional watercolorist and has had extensive knowledge of watercolors and pigments. Given the amount of time and experience she has had with various brands, she would be an authority if a palette is really bad or really good. Daniel Smith and Schmincke is one of her top faves for serious artists but she has mentioned cheaper sets that are good for beginners like White Nights. Reviews like these save serious beginners time and a lot of money by keeping them away from certain brands. Being both a beginner and a no-income stay-at-home mom, it really helps me to gauge which sets I should truly focus on. I do appreciate you wanting to give all brands a fair shot but masters and professionals can always tell the quality of their trade :) she made a beautiful painting and it says more about skill than brand. But fear not, there are other reviews aimed for crafters and hobbyists that might appeal more to you. -love and light, Marie
