Happy ending, but it was saddening. Just imagine hundreds of years have passed and Sorey wakes up, but there is no longer his friends, Rose died presumably of old age and we could assume Alisha too, they were somewhere around same age. Other seraphs all aged probably couple hundred years old and wise, while Sorey wakes up with mentality still of age 17,that's gotta be sad realizing so many years have passed and all the human friends u had are long, long gone

The setting of the world seems quite interesting actually, well from Tales of Berseria's side of storytelling, saying that the world had been reborn and destroy again and again resulting in the varies remains of ancient civilizations and ruins, which in the Expedition of Berseria, we can search out new area which took name after the previous tales series, which are mainly for cameo appearance purposes, but to me, it suggest that all tales games could be connected, in a way.....? It's a fun way of thinking like that.

The army of Shepherds from the Earthen Historia was actually from the Age of Maotelus ca. 400-500 years before Zestiria. They all made pacts with Maotelus (presumably with Lailah as his sublord). There does not necessarily need to be a LoC for shepherds to exist. All that's needed are humans with high resonance.

Knight Blazer There was a Lord of Calamity during the Age of Sheperds. In fact, Namco released information detailing the events around each age and the Sheperds dissapear during a fight with the Last Lord of Calamity before Heldalfr. The fight with that Lord of Calamity spread a malevolence-based disease referenced as "The Plague" which is the event the introduction of Zestiria is mentioning when they talk about the Sheperds and Malevolence. The army of Sheperds is killed by the Lord of Calamity and in a last ditch effort Eizen, who fought alongside the Sheperds, transformed into a Dragon and killed the Lord of Calamity, going on to ravage parts of Glenwood until he hides himself in the mountain we find Edna in. This fight with the Lord of Calamity kills every single active Shepard and creates a surplus of Malevolence that slowly begins to consume Glenwood even with Maotelus blessing in effect. This event would lead later Shepards to workin the shadows to find a way to stop the malevolence until Michael fell in despair by the attacks of Rolance and Hyland, and Maotelus became convinced conventional methods would not work and instead turned into a hellion as a very weird machievellan plan to force the new Sheperd to become Maotelus new pure vessel and seal themselves. A lot of this things are details Namco revealed in world-lore books and other comes from extra content they explored in the manga adaptation which is pretty loyal to the game. It's not the first time Namco has pulled this either. In Tales of the Abyss, all the backstory about Van and the true Fon Master Ion's real end goal (before Van went a little nuts) was released in a japan-only book. And Xillia 2 released in japan-only books the truth about Ludger's mother and how Ludger's mother and aunt were BOTH married to Bisley (making Ludger both the half brother AND half-cousin of Julius). They also revealed Julius killed Ludger's mother and originally took him in purely to steal Ludger's clock, but eventually grew fond of him.

That guy at the grave was not Sorey, but the new Shepard. I'm sure that was Rose grave with no doubt. Sorey didn't return and awaken from his sleep later in the years when Mikleo is a lot older. However, I wouldn't really call Sorey a Shepard, but rather the new God of light because they become one person.

Yeah, it's hinted that the time as the vessel of Maotelus turns him into a reincarnated Seraphim. In Zestiria and Berseria we are told that when a human with enough spiritual atunement merges with the power of an Empyrean or Seraphim Lord they get reincarnated as Seraphim. Mikleo is the first example of this as Zenrus infused his energy into Mikleo as a baby to save him and thus reincarnate him into a Seraphim. We get a second example when we meet the guardian of one of the Trials of the Shepard, and in Berseria we had several examples and we even learn that all of the Empyreans fuse themselves with human souls when they awaken.

I finally finished Tales of Vesperia and Zestiria and this was neat. Berseria was my first tales game because I bought it when I was depressed as an impulse buy and it ended up being my favorite and still is my personal favorite out of the three that i've played (I know Vesperia isn't connected to Zesti and Berse but it was one that I played second). Personally I enjoyed the characters a lot more in Berseria but the characters do a good job in this game. The ending to Zestiria was a little lack luster but that's ok, it doesn't need to be crazy dramatic. Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed this game.

In the first scene that’s rose’s grave (because of her daggers and the scattered bones there looking old, so she would have died of old age.) then we can assume Lailah and the others continued to help the shepherds over and over to let sorey’s wish live on. They really cared about him, they had no reason to but they took on the burden of seeing history repeat over and over for Sorey. Before it was just Lailah repeating history but now it was just Sorey’s seraphim comrades. In the end they sacrificed more than he did.

cmiiw but I've read somewhere that while the de facto "First Shepherd" was Artorius, the shepherd image the people look up to is actually Eleanor since in Berseria's ending she is shown leading the relief efforts and making herself known. If I had to guess, over 1000 years the legend got mixed up and people starts confusing the warrior that helped restore humanity as the first shepherd.

Anime is non-canon. It has continuity issues with not just Zestiria but also Berseria and even the DLC. And no, Sorey is asleep during the events of the DLC. Heck, the DLC ends with Rose showing Alisha the place where Sorey and Maotelus were sealed. What you were probably thinking about was the scene in the game's ending, implied to be at least a century after Zestiria's events, where we see what appears to be Sorey grabbing Mikleo's arm as he was about to fall. So yes, Sorey will awaken... at some unspecified point far ahead in the future.

Maotelus will always be alive to keep the balance of the land in check, but Heldalf's malevolence was too much even for him, especially after what Michael did by sacrificing Mikleo(human). Velvet and Lachi(cet) will always be alive stuck in a contradictory cycle of infinity regardless of the outside world, as she can feed him infinite malevolence and he can inturn convert that malevolence into power for her, so they're both infinitely stuck feeding off of each other. That was Velvet's only solution to breaking the 1000 year repeating cycle of Innominat's resurrection. So, in essence Maotelus/Phi will always be a guardian in an endless cycle, Velvet and Laphi/InnomiJerk will always be stuck in an endless loop, and Sorey gets free after a couple of centuries after he purifies the malevolence off of Phi/Maotelus. My opinion? Sorey got the best deal out of Velvet, Phi, and Laphi. Well , Eizen probably had it the worst, but atleast he got to find closure if you choose to confront him in Zesteria. For cannon related preference, I would like to treat "Tales of Zestiria the X" as nothing more than a non-cannon elaborated, badly adapted, poorly executed cameo. Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Berseria are two fucking amazing j-RPGs.

I have a headcanon that Sorey will try to find a way to free Velvet of her endless cycle after he wakes up. According to the manga, he learns what happened in Berseria from Maotelus, and this just seems like something he would do. And the idea of Velvet being stuck in a fate worse than death for all eternity is just too depressing. But that's just my personal theory XD

They also said when someone dies who’s pure hearted could become a seraph which is true with rose but would we really want that? She’d forget all her memories and they also said they keep their old bodies so she’d be an old women. Unlike if sorey was turned into a seraph from sleeping because he didn’t die his memories wouldn’t be forgotten. It’s sad either way you think about it.

I get it, the idea of pressing onward despite strife and hardship I get the themes Zestiria tried to play. I have to say that while I liked the idea of all the tragedies Sorey and the party faced and overcame. I felt like Zesteria pushed the tragedies too far to the point where there was no real silver lining and it felt like a battle no one even won. Sure Sorey came back only 1,000 years later where pretty much everyone he knows is dead and the world did find peace with no more malevolence. But tell me when anyone faced Heldalf in the last battle there wasn't a sickening sense that you didn't even win the fight. There was going to still be malevolence, there was still going to be a Lord of Calamity, Sorey sacrifices himself and stays in stasis for a 1,000 years until the world finally got its shit together, Rose dies off screen from old age with no real development (We learn she becomes the next Shepherd in Alisha's story pretty much out of guilt for not helping Sorey in the end.) and there was no other way to change anyone's fate or hell give Heldalf some type of closure to his madness, he still died condemning his fate pretty much mocking you that everything was for naught. I just felt it was too bittersweet for a Tales ending and I know most Tales games end with bittersweet endings, look at Tales Xillia 1 and 2 or Graces F, but at least they held a sense of completeness to where you could accept the ending your characters got or even felt it was still a perfect ending. Tales of Zesteria had no satisfying resolution to me and I hope the anime does it at least a little better because I actually liked Sorey and his crew. Sorry for the paragraph.

The < seemed weird > chat at the lake's blank give pretty much hint of a couple than friends 3.The in physical meaning: their sitting. _Showed that Sorey till meet long-haired Milkboy but not the same temple screen as game's ending. After a big long hug and tears, Milkboy and Sorey get together heading to a ruins corded to Sorey is kinda near where they just met up. (please stay calm with the-suggested-opening.) _ Also, in the meeting , Sorey answered to Milkboy that Hedalf was somewhere to get a new start. _ Lailah went with new seraphim, Edna and Zaveid got back to where they had been with Edna's bro. Edna's brother till in dragon form but have more friendly in him. "Better" as you asking?

@@PrimalLIQUID Yeah while I enjoyed this game I do have some issues with it's over all lore. First of all I don't like how in this game the monsters are invisible to everyone but a select few. Previous tales games felt like fleshed out fantasy worlds with people fighting or living alongside all kinds of creatures and trying to build a civilization in a world such creatures exist in. But in Zestria? From the average person's perspective it's basically Earth except there are non scientific reasons bad shit just seems to randomly happen. To me that's just not very satisfying. I want to see a world where people acknowledge the monsters! I do appreciate the effort to do a more unique setting but to me I just was not a fan.

I find the anime ending brighter and happier than the game ending where Sorey and Mikleo are separated for centuries, were forced to kill Eizen, lost their grandfather Zenrus who died fighting Heldalf, and Sorey never seeing Rose and Alisha again after he goes to sleep. In the anime, Sorey returns after only a few years so he could be reunited with Rose/Alisha. Eizen is alive and while he's still a dragon, he regained some of his human consciousness, and Zenrus is alive and waiting for Sorey/Mikleo back in Elysium.

Sorey x Mikleo's ending is as beautiful as their bond... if others think this is just 'friendship' or 'nothing more than just brothers' (really that statement is OVERrated...) then maybe you should watch the anime version instead (which is strongly but stealthily Sorey x Mikleo too) But don't bother to ask questions like why do you ship these two when they're just brothers... No matter how it's explained, I'm 100% certain you WON'T accept the answer anyway (NOTE: ufotable n bandai Namco as of this time NEVER denied sorey x mikleo romance and only hardcore skeptics ever bother to say we're misunderstanding stuff even when there's NO OFFICIAL declaration which says that, as what happened to THE rival fandom.) Needless to say, the romance between these two characters is NOT YAOI by a long shot--I think we all understand that romance doesn't mean seeing characters in a sexual or perverted way... That's why we have fanfiction and doujinshi... so others can explore those fantasies in a "safe" way without bothering other people (any other fiction has those...) So even if I want to satiate your curiosity by explaining why we support sorey x mikleo I'd rather ask you to do your own research--EVEN IF you'll just dismiss all kinds of evidence out there (so much research and explication has been put out there for your sake) and insist on your OWN, CONVENTIONAL, NEAR-SIGHTED/MYOPIC views anyway--which is why THERE'S NO REASON WHY WE HAVE TO BELABOR THE POINT AND EXPLAIN THINGS YOU'RE NOT EVEN INTERESTED ENOUGH TO LISTEN TO. What's more, Sorey, for the first time in the game holds Mikleo's hand but does NOT speak his name. Meaning: He is NOT ACTING BASED ON CHILDHOOD MEMORIES. Neither is Mikleo just some random stranger he must save 'cause clearly he was lingering somewhere in that ruins when Mikleo arrived but for SOME reason does NOT approach Mikleo even out of curiosity. Where was Sorey BEFORE Mikleo fell? Obviously he was observing from a close distance the same way someone might if he has a vague intuition and attraction for someone but uncertain as to how to deal with the situation... As Lailah said ONLY THE STRONGEST FEELINGS, LIKES n DISLIKES (not memories) remain with a human when he's reborn as a seraph which obviously happened to Sorey 'cause 500 yrs is too long for any human body to endure... Now, IF HE HAD BROTHERLY memories of Mikleo that's NOT what drove him to reach out n be there 'cause those memories should've vanished while he slept--as Lailah predicted. Also there's a statement about matters of the heart remaining in Sorey's heart forever... an oath of some sort which agrees with Lailah's theory. And, of course, if you're a writer you should have a reason for creating these nuances and situations... Rather than making sormik meet casually this scene resembles many other moments they had in the past which Sorey does NOT remember but somehow recognizes. In other words, THE ENDING HERE IS TO SAY THAT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOREY N MIKLEO IS A MATTER OF PERSONAL BONDS DEEPER AND STRONGER THAN ANY MEMORY OR PAST CONNECTIONS THEY HAD EVEN IF THOSE FEELINGS COME FROM THOSE MEMORIES. Even "Empire of Corpses" DID NOT show love to be stronger than memory--and to think that there's a more explicit relationship between Watson x Friday. In contrast these two boys did NOT even act as lovers but definitely have deeper feelings than real AND fictional lovers (I can't even compete myself). I hope THIS point RESOLVES this matter. Certainly there are A LOT MORE to it than this but too many/laborious to discuss, so I end it here. Overall this was ... NOT my favorite Tales game. Gameplay wise the aritization was fun although came with the flaw of taking away one or two party members which often felt lacking. But the biggest issue was the equipment skill system which was an absolute pain in the ass to deal with party due to the lack of control it gave but then still expected you to strategically puts skills in certain slots to merge them together. But another issue I was was with the game setting and lore. First of all I don't like how in this game the monsters are invisible to everyone but a select few. Previous tales games felt like fleshed out fantasy worlds with people fighting or living alongside all kinds of creatures and trying to build a civilization in a world such creatures exist in. But in Zestria? From the average person's perspective it's basically Earth except there are non scientific reasons bad shit just seems to randomly happen. To me that's just not very satisfying. I want to see a world where people acknowledge the monsters! I do appreciate the effort to do a more unique setting but to me I just was not a fan.

I haven't gotten that far in it yet but so far I'm hating symphonia's story. And some of it's gameplay aspects (Like having to unlock save points by using a stone you randomly get after battles) really aren't working for me. It might change as I play it, but so far, I think Zestiria is better than Symphonia. There, I said it. Come at me with your pitchforks and torches.

I actually agree that the story itself was 'meh', but I really did love the character interactions in this game, probably the only thing that made this game. However, I will say that Berseria really did a very good job filling in the holes that Zestiria left in its lore.

Agreed. The story felt really predictable and lacking. The characters were also really bland; especially the female ones, sadly (though I love Edna). But like usually, it was still enjoyable in a way. Aside from story, the exploration parts of the game are really boring. The same, generic scenery and annoying dungeons/ruins/ect were just tedious. At least they improved with Tales of Berseria. Probably one of my favourites out of all the tales games.
