I purchased a DiaLogue Premium HP 2yrs ago and was thinking on trading in the DiaLogue Premium HP to EVO 400 and left a message with Upscale Audio. A gentlemen call me back and talking about this trade I was told to sell this myself (better price) then what Upscale Audio would give me on the trade....We never talked about the $$'s (sorta rushed) so I left it as "Oh well"...I will keep the DiaLogue Premium HP as I really enjoy connected to Focal Aria 936 (great combo). I will look into another Brand when the time comes as maybe the resell value is not what is talked about here.

A couple of things I have learned about the primaluna amps,,as per listening to the reviews,,is that there made quality is hard to beat wen compared to the rest and very possibly the best , or one of the best trouble free tube amps,, during the long-term, i would feel confident with such a purchase 😉

Kevin should recommend phono stages to go with the Primaluna products. People like us, who love tubes, love usually also vinyl.

There is an optional internal phono stage now for $250. But truthfully external phono stages are always preferred . Check the Manley Chinook Special Edition MKII.

let's hear it. I had a friend from years ago when quicksilvers were great and I have a friend right now who say the same thing. They are at the point where they care more about the recording than the performance. My friend was complaining about the Layla recording. The Layla recording is fine but the more important thing is the performance. Layla is one of the finest albums ever done. It is pure emotion. You can feel Clapton's pain and it is raw. That is what art is about. Does it move you. Tom Dowd recorded and engineered most of the most famous artists of the 20th century. I own most of the classic Coltrane and Miles Davis classic pieces. It is fabulous but it doesn't move me like Layla. This is of course subjective. I do own a very nice HiFI system but I think many "audiophiles" forget about performance. The first guy with the quicksilvers recognized his mistake and actually scaled back. He thought he had lost his passion for performance and started to only care about quality of recordings.It is all about performance.

Whats the major difference between the EVO 300 and 400 beyond power? I see the S/N ratio is higher on the 400, is that noticeable or just a function of the greater power?

Congrats if you have Ardens. Bad-ass. Either amp will be perfect. If the extra $1k means getting a lower quality phono or something, get the 300. The 400 is the ultimate of course. But Ardens are an easy drive.

Running the tubes cooler is a great idea but with the HP series you gotta bite the bullet once to upgrade the power tubes 😬 I’ve listened to PL amps, even the new Evo. In stock form they sound like a SS amp with some tube goodness. Guess this is why they are so easily accepted in the market. Good stuff.

I was told by another big audio reviewer friend , That i needed to hook up with Kevin at upscale audio for a budget tube integrated amp to review for the viewers.( Because ) I told him i wanted to review tube gear but the budget stuff like Schiit audios PreAmp the freya plus was about the cheapest i could find that had good feedback on the forums, but i didn't wanna review tube gear that has tubes hooked up to a circuit board thats a disaster waiting to happen ! I am newer reviewer, but i have many years expierence with Budget gear 33 years total , I understand build quality , I just serviced my Sansui G-8000 i paid 1400.US for, but its mine and it was a pain in my ass ! But I was looking at a loan lease agreement i know i know , But i already review products for iFi audio -Emotiva- IOTA-electronics And once in awhile Adorama , If not possible all is well, But I Appricate you breaking down why an audio product is good ! I must disagree here when he says : get an amp that runs cool : , no man , if that is the case get a 12V some of those new Tubes , might even save on iron . But no , that is not the goal , the goal for me is to get 2000V, 1000V at least , that way you can use 1 tube instead of 4 and that helps to get most character out of it , maybe its more precise maybe not , depends , but always more character . So that is the thing for me . you can spend your 10 000$ as you see fit

I second this. Running tubes in parallel or push pull for efficiency is stupid. I got the tube amp to hear the signal in class a. I can get a class d amp for efficiency or anything else these days. A tube amp that runs hot and sweet is what I love.

@@V1ralB1ack i came to tube world from Class D solid state and such for a long time . I avoided tubes because they said , no itsn not for modern music . Now all i can say is , like hell its not . The best heavy distortion Drum and bass , one can say noise music , iv heard is on tubes . No joke , all except Sub Bass , that can stay on solid state , the rest only tubes for me .

Im confused, Ive been looking at this model and PL website states it has 42 watts in ultra linear. Kevin is saying 35 watts, so will I have to change out tubes to get the listed wattage?

Or go with the Evo 400/Dialogue Premium HP....8 power tubes instead of 4. 70 watts EL34 and up as you go up the tube ladder

DO NOT BUY PrimaLuna - not a commentary on the units themselves but after having a couple of PrimaLuna units their customer and warranty support in the US are awful. By far the worst I have ever experienced by any high-end audio company. It's not worth the purchase. DO NOT PURCHASE PrimaLuna!!!
