Great video. I learned a few new things. One drawback to iMovie is you can’t move text around on screen nor can you display two images simultaneously on screen. For example if you wanted to have one video appear to the right of your head and then another on your left AND have them both remain on screen for a few seconds, I haven’t figured out how to do that on iMovie
@jgs22072 жыл бұрын
i managed to do that in Keynote. Had my Main video in centre if screen, then added 2 or more smaller videos on the side. Did the Format animation to whatever settings i needed to appear either all at same time or in different stages of entry and exit after xx seconds. I also added text animations using keynote and then exported the whole thing as movie. There are prob way more efficient methods of doing this, but just saying i (with my rudimentary / intermediate skills) did manage to do this via Keynote. Then imported the movie back into imovie and did other edits on imovie.

My favourite tip; I use two static cameras to shoot guitar performances, and I use the Ken Burns Effect (in the Crop section) to give the illusion of a camera gradually panning or zooming or both. There’s a lot you can do with it, not least the arrival position can be copied, pasted onto the next clip and reversed, so you get the effect of continuous movement.

Something I forgot imovie could do (until recently). Pertaining to controlling the playback speed of a clip on your Timeline. Right click to highlight the clip, then left click on that clip for a list of commands. Select "Show Speed Editor". This will produce two control knobs on the clip which make it possible to precisely speed up or slow down the clip. This feature was extremely useful to me lately when I was trying to sync unmatched video footage of a band playing songs from their CD, to studio recorded songs from the CD. Exact sync was impossible; but this control applied here and there made it close enough in sync for the customer.

Thanks for the tutorial. Easy to follow and quite thorough. I wondered if there is an option to put "key" points into the audio track where you can pull down the volume i.e. ride the audio up and down by placing key points at the beginning and end of an action?
@catherineunlimited Жыл бұрын
Hi StudioGallery, I've been able to select certain sections within clips in order to reduce the volume/speed of specific sections by holding down the"R" key with my left hand and dragging the track pad with my right hand. I'm sure if you have a mouse attached it will have the same effect. A yellow box with drag handles on either side appears which you can slide and extend. You can then adjust the volume/speed within the yellow box in the same way that Justin showed us. You can also create a fade in and fade out for the volume within that individual box by selecting the little circles at the edge of the box. I hope I've explained that properly 😂

Hey Justin, is there a way to label sections of your video in iMovie? I think these were called chapter markers at one point. Thanks so much! Working on some big videos and would like to know how to label certain sections so when I wrap up editing for the day I can wake up the next morning and look at the project and have a good idea of where each clip is based on its label.
@catherineunlimited Жыл бұрын
Hi Christopher, I use the titles in iMovie and give them brief names to describe each clip. Then, when I'm editing, I can find the relevant sections without having to watch or listen to each individual clip to find the ones I'm looking for. Once I've finished editing, I remove the titles.......... Don't think I've ever forgotten to remove one of my notes and accidentally uploaded a video to KZbin with my description left in, but I'm sure it will happen one day 😂
