I have Both the SLX and GLX microprisms on unity mounts. one observation that stands out is the SLX has a slightly thicker and larger recticle, The GLX has clearer Glass and finer recticle/horseshoe. for me and a couple of people that have looked through both of them mounted on different carbines, both of these features are noticeable. even more so behind a G43/33 3xmaginifier. (*holosun and G43)..Both are in Green and they are nuclear bright at the highest settings, The GLX recticle also seems to be evenly lit and colored as you raise the brightness, at least on the green colored one . autolive works great. the buttons do need just a bit more tactile or raised arrow. i have mixed results with red dots, and as my eyes get older this seems to be the way. the etched recticle is a huge plus. save some space and weight on BUIS.(depending on your application)
@illestdomer2005Ай бұрын
I’m not sure the replacement for BUIS gets enough love/recognition for prisms. It seems like a lot of folks just say it’s for astigmatism or just the reticle. I have SLx 1x on my AP5-P, and it removed my main concern with blocking my irons. In fact, I rarely turn the illumination on - using just the etched reticle is sufficient for me in most circumstances.

Regarding the buttons: I can hardly imagine that's a problem. I mean... On is up. On is down. One is in front. One is in the back. If you can remember where the front of your optic is, then you can remember where the up-button is. I can't tell the up from the down button apart on my Eotech by feel of the button itself, BUT I know one is in the front and one is in the back and I know how the front and the back of the optic feel...
@klasodethАй бұрын
Knowing where the buttons are supposed to be is not the same as being able to feel the buttons. An Eotech's buttons are pretty easy to feel, so you know if you're on a button even if you're not sure which button it is. On the GLX 1x, the buttons look like they're more like the buttons on my key fob. Sure, I know the upper-left button unlocks the car, and the upper-right button locks the car. But the buttons are so flat it's impossible to tell where one button ends and the other begins without looking. It's also impossible to tell where a button ends and the fob housing begins because the area around the buttons is also rubberized. Since the buttons are flush with the surface, they will only trigger with a solid press on the center of the button, if I'm not perfectly centered on the button, it won't click. And due to the lack of tactile feedback, it's impossible to tell by feel what I need to do to correct the issue. Was I pressing 1/8" too low? 1/8" too high? Off to the left or right? If the buttons were raised a bit so that I could actually feel them, the key fob would be much easier to use in the dark, even if I still have to memorize which button does what. The car itself does a much better job in this regard. The buttons on the steering wheel are all raised, so it's easy to tell if my fingers are on a button without having to look, which is especially important for the buttons on the back of the steering wheel. For button clusters on the front, there's even a central divot that helps make it easier to feel out the relative positions of the buttons. And the buttons on the back have a raised bump on one button and a divot on the other button to make it easy to distinguish between the buttons. Controls that are likely to be used in the dark need to be designed to be easy to use without looking at them. Sure, one can always train around the limitations, but given that an optic might need to be activated under stressful situations, why let the manufacturer off the hook for a design shortcoming, especially on something that's supposed to be their premium offering?
@AMG454PROАй бұрын
Pretty much every optic I can think of that has horizontal side buttons for illumination, left is up, right is down, even when the buttons are separated from each other and placed on the opposite sides of the optic left is always up and right is down. No confusion whatsoever for most people I imagine.
@chipsterb4946Ай бұрын
Thank you for mentioning the lower mounting height for the SLX. I wish that there were a way to mount these PA prisms ever lower on a Picatinny rail for lever action rifles. Chin welds don’t work for me. That said, I really like removing that big protrusion on the left side. Assuming that you are right eyed and shoot with both eyes open, that thing blocks a lot more of your left eye’s view.
@barnbwtАй бұрын
The centerline mounted height is the same for both; cheek weld is identical. Now, the overall height is greater, because of the larger lens, but the reticle position is unchanged.

To my eye from your footage, it looks like the little bit of extra FOV on the GLX is blurry compared to the SLX, and the non-blurry area of each is about the same. Especially noticeable when looking at leaves at 17:48. It also looks like the SLX has about 1.1x magnification while the GLX looks to be like 1.2x. Just ever so slightly more, based on the footage presented.

C, might I offer a suggestion. Something I got turned onto somewhat recently - Light leakage out of the front objective (illumination in dark environments). Some optics are flat out horrible, while others there is virtually none. So far, I can't correlate any feature set VS how much leaks out the objective while using illumination. Obviously, a target or Bambi doesn't care in the slightest. But there are some use cases where it could be a life altering event........ How do these two do on that front?

In fact, Primary Arms is to scared to actually release the MOA size specs for its reticles, fearing that someone will put them out of business if they get hold of the respective MOA specs. Mr. C, how would you compare your Holosun circle-dot and PA reticle sizes (Both the GLX and SLX)? Also is the PA chevron too fat for its small size to be fully effective? My issue with the SLx is how it interacted with the PA 3X Micro magnifier, which PA seemed to market as a companion for the Micro Prism, for a while. I knew prisms and magnifiers were iffy, and I couldn't make it work. It was incredibly frustrating to get a clear picture between the two of them, and the Micro Magnifier is a great magnifier for the price and plays well with red dots, which is why I am now looking at the GLx MD-21S. (The Prism rides on my 590 until I find a more appropriate home for it.)

It seemed to me the SLx worked with magnifiers if your eyes didn't require much diopter adjustment on either optic. The GLx flat out doesn't care; once it's focused to your eye, it's in focus even if you're 6" back where a magnifier would be. Swing the mag into place and focus its diopter through the 1x, and you're done.

@matthewriegner5180Ай бұрын
You can yes. But it's not ideal. In one circumstance, it's easier to focus images, the other it's easier to zero and maintain zero. Ex. Eye -> magnifier -> optic -> target: you will have a harder time getting focus of both optics for magnified and not mag but it's doable. The optic is zerod and the magnifier zero doesn't matter it just centers behind. In the opposite set up eye -> optic -> mag -> target: you'll need to zero the optic and zero the magnifier. In this case the magnifier needs to be zerod. Also depending on the mounts and lining up, it may be zerod at a distance but be off from expected at other distances. So any bdc may not work at all. But easier to focus the reticle and the magnified image.

I have the Ghost forward magnifier from Monstrum tactical and it works great! You have to sight it in just like an optic but it works. I have one on a 1x and a 3x prism

What’s the performance of these with magnifiers? Any significant difference between the two?

The GLx 1x works great with our 3x Micro Magnifier!

Don't worry C_Does, if you don't like the GLx you can totally send it to me, I'll take it off your hands. 😏

Does this get any brighter than the SLX? The SLX would be a bit too dim in bright sunlight IMO.

The green is noticeably brighter to my eyes, have you tried that color?

Its probably a set it and forget it, change the battery once a year type of thing.

glass between glx and slx is kinda the same I feel at this point with the newest slx and glx options, you are paying for features excluding glass upgrade with it anymore.

Does this work with the 6x glx magnifier?

Genuinely curious, I don’t own either of these but I’m in the market for. The trijicon mro is ~300 on amazon, I’m sure if I message my gunstore buddy I could get it even cheaper. That’s without accessories of course which this one comes with. Why would I go with this one instead of the brand name American made trijicon, for close to the same price? Is the mro not a micro prism? What is the benefits of having a micro prism?
@jbus3650Ай бұрын
Usually people with astigmatism has less illumination starburst on prisms. Also on the prism you get the edged reticle, so you have a black reticle even if your battery dies.
@cbrooks2767Ай бұрын
MRO is not a microprism. It's a projected red dot, so if your battery dies you're left with a tube with clear glass but no reticle. Microprisms have reticles which are still visible with a dead battery.
@elendalАй бұрын
It works without batteries.
@zues287Ай бұрын
In addition to what others have said, the MRO is a pretty terrible optic for the price. It has terrible fisheye, etc. There are plenty of cheap Chinese manufactured optics that are 1/4 of the price, like the Sig Romeo5, that are better optically and just as, if not more, durable. The MRO HD is much better, but it's a lot more expensive.

Yep, all of the GLX 2Xs were made in China too. I think it's only the GLX lpvos that were made in the Philippines.

Raised buttons are more easy to press accidentally. It's not hard to learn that the front button is up, and rear is down. It's easy to find the buttons on that raised bezel, even with gloves on. It's more important that the buttons are located easily, than the user exercise Braille knowledge to read the markings; they're off by themselves on the left side of the tube, toward the top where they can be reached from either side easily. They're also fairly large, and have a positive tactile feedback when pressed.
