Thank you. I'm finding mine very difficult because of the lack of encouragement and this is not putting me off teaching, but going into school is tough
@ForTeachersChannel5 жыл бұрын
It’s really tough! You need to develop a positive attitude towards it if possible (I know it can be tough) and enjoy each day as much as you can. Soak up all of the advice you are given and work on your own ‘presence’ as a teacher. I believe in you and hope to hear the rest of the placement goes well ☺️

My first was year 2. The year I teach in Dubai now. I love the work you put in to KZbin! It inspires me to create my own videos. I recently released one on how puppets help in school 😀

Thanks for sharing this! I’ll take a look at the puppets video as I’d like to use them sometimes in class. Feel free to message me on insta and maybe we could share each other’s content on there too. Have a great day!

I’m so excited for you! I can’t believe mine was so long ago now. The memories you make on the first placement will never leave you. Have you got a long way to travel? Good luck!!

Thank you so much! It’s around an hours journey, but it’s only a bus and a walk so not too bad!

Not so bad! Still fairly exhausting though. But worth it for the qualification. Good luck and please let me know how you get on! Here to help with any questions you may have x

I’m due to start SCITT in September. I currently work as an outdoor learning leader so I work with all year groups, but I’m choosing to specialise in early years. I’ve recently been working with year 5 and I’ve really enjoyed it.

It’s great that this experience has shown you a year group in which you’d like to work with in the future. Would you ever consider working with older students? Good luck on the course by the way! X

Hi Katie, my first placement was in year 2 in a huge school with 98% EAL. I learnt a lot because it was such an uncomfortable environment. I felt the school was spilt into two groups, middle leaders and key stage 2 then the rest of the staff. My mentor was assistant head and had very little time for me. She got stressed very quickly, spoke extremely fast and got angry at me if I didn't understand. She once threw a pile of work books at me. I'm currently on placement in a year 4/5 class. The school is small but so supportive. My mentor is brilliant too. I struggle with my subject knowledge a little in key stage two (after spending 16 years in early years) maths in particular, it's not my strong point.
@ForTeachersChannel5 жыл бұрын
I think subject knowledge is extremely difficult in general. How can we be expected to know everything about everything? I am sorry to hear of your negative experience. I hope it has motivated you to continue and become the best educator you can be. Let me know if you need support with anything! Katie x

I'm starting my School Direct PGCE in September, but have volunteered in y2, y1 and y6, with some Y4 for three years at university, and now currently work in Y3-6 as a teaching assistant. I'm quite the opposite actually, and really enjoy working with the younger children; purely because of their enthusiasm and humour! I'm really looking forward to starting my training after getting so much classroom experience, even though I know it will be difficult.

Id be so interested to find out how you cope with the transition from TA to classroom teacher. It’s amazing that you have so much experience already. I imagine this will make teacher training a little easier (and less scary!) please let me know how you get on so I can follow your journey!

Hi, can you do a video on how to plan, observe and do a pupil progress meeting at the end of block placement 3 for focus children? We have 3 focus children to observe and track the progress of.

Good luck with the final year! I think my final year was my favourite as it was when I started to find my own teaching style. What age do you want to work with when you qualify?

Hi Katie. How did you increase your subject knowledge and curriculum knowledge? I’m currently on my first placement and I am struggling to increase my knowledge. I’m in a mixed year 5/6 class which has made things a little more tricky. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Currently working as a TA in Year 1, last year volunteered with Forest school and school nursery class. I start my PGCE in September whilst I’m looking forward to it, I’m rather nervous about managing the workload and caring for my two small children! I am fortunate , however, to have a great support network. Do you have any advice about organising paperwork/ time management etc? Thank you for your videos they are so encouraging!
@ForTeachersChannel5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kelly! Wow, I can’t imagine doing a teaching course whilst also caring for little ones. I believe you will manage (stay positive!) but also have great admiration for you and your career path. I have made a video about work life balance (let me know if you can’t find it) but of course it’s hard to manage as a teacher. Learn to prioritise tasks as things you need to do immediately (actions that impact others) and cut back on things like laminating it possible. Online teaching groups can be great for asking to share resources if you’re teaching something others may have also taught. Stay in touch and let me know how you get on! Xx

Hi, am looking for a physics teaching position in HK. My documentation is done, also applied for accreditation on HKCAAVQ portal. Could you please give me some suggestions on how to get a teaching position in a secondary school in HK. TIA

How long is the placement? Are you a full on teacher after that? I studied primary school teaching in Germany and now I'm at school for 1,5 years. I have to do so many tasks like school law, I have seminars for my subjects (German, Maths, biology). I get my lessons marked at the end of the year. Primary school in Germany is usually year 1 to 4. Is it different in the UK? For me, I prefer working with year 1 and 2 children cause I can teach them my rituals and rules :).
@ForTeachersChannel5 жыл бұрын
In the UK you (normally) either take a three or four year ‘teaching’ degree or you do a different subject then you add a PGCE at the end which enables you to teach. Each route is different but for mine I did three big block placements, each longer than the last and by the third one I was expected to teach most of the timetable. Alongside this we also had seminars and lectures as well as assignments. The course was full on and it definitely prepared me for the workload of teaching! All in all worth the effort I believe. Does this sound similar? Good luck on your own journey ☺️
@evabergmann79825 жыл бұрын
How long were your placements? I studied 4 years at university (First degree) and now I am doing my second degree which also takes 1,5 years. I wonder how it is so different in every country. Thank you :).
