This is part 2 of a two part series on replacing the primary timing chain and water pump on an 07 Ford Edge 3.5L. In this video I'll be dealing with the clean up and preparation of the front engine cover and the mating surface of the engine where the engine cover, aka timing cover, mates to it. I'll also install the water pump, timing chain guides, timing chain and timing chain tensioner and then reassemble the engine.
Some things that didn't make it in the video. (I think you would agree the video was long enough):
Fill the engine with the correct amount of oil. Check and correct oil level as needed.
Be sure to inspect the engine for oil leaks after the repair and after the vehicle has been running. Repair as needed if there is a leak.
Also, reinstall the fender apron and put the left front tire back on. Tighten lug nuts to specification.
Special notes for clarification:
It is recommended to use a plastic razor blade to clean the RTV from the mating surfaces to help insure that the surfaces are not damaged, which could lead to leaks. If a metal razor blade is used be very careful not to damage the metal surfaces.
Also, use care not to allow anything to accidentally fall into the intake or the engine when it is opened up for repairs.
Just to be clear, at the 34 minute mark I put the timing cover on, be sure that the bolts go back in the same spots you took them out of. They should have been placed in a piece of cardboard indicating there position. See part 1.
Be sure all wire harnesses are secured just as they were before removing them during disassembly, including the harness that travels behind the rear valve cover in the middle between the PCV valve and the brake booster. I did not give that much attention in the video.
!!!!***Also, at the 40:30 mark I suggest running oil through the engine with the drain plug out.... Put the drain plug back in and tighten it when your done running oil through. It should go without saying but I'll say it anyway.***!!!!
When checking electrical connectors to see if they have been securely snapped on do not tug on the wiring. Always pull on the connector shell it's self.
At the 1:07:27 mark I show the hose going to the bottom of the coolant reservoir. Be sure the hose is installed all the way before positioning the hose clamp back in place.
