You have a very nice collection Sir!! :) I love the Ultimate version, the light up Balrog base is amazing. I like this Ultimate version more than the one they came out with a couple of years ago because this Gandalf is more of the center piece, (Portrays Gandalf defeating the demon Balrog. This one also reminds me of a fine art piece, nicely done. I'm definitely pre-ordering!! I think Comic Concepts is the best deal,($50 cheaper than retail, no tax, and shipping is cheaper than most.

Good to hear your view on this. I've come to the same conclusion, I can't justify paying out 3 grand which could be put towards an expensive 1/3 piece like the AVP Scar Predator (which I'm now gonna do). I was shocked by the 1/4 price but blown away by the shipping cost also... If the Balrog base was facing upright and the mini diorama was underneath it ... I would've bought it regardless. Also, I want a Balrog with a glowing whip, so I'm hoping Iron Studios does it down the line in a 1/4.

Totally understandable when you have 2 Balrogs already. It's all about getting pieces you really need and not oversaturating space with the same thing - minus spending more. With the Cost of Living Crisis gotta be smart with our money.

Please excuse my poor English. The Arkham City Harley Quinn I purchased also had a carton count of 2 right at the start of the PO, but was changed to a carton count of 1 just before shipping started. Can't fault your logic. I was listening to all of the stuff you have on PO already and then you start talking about all of the larger scale stuff you hope to have in the future, and my head just stated spinning. So ya, good choice on passing this up. For me, I had to have a good long think about where I was going with all of these LOTR pieces from all of these different studios (1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 1/1, sheesh...) and finally decided to stay with 1/4. So, I'm all in with P1 and I have already preordered the Gandalf ultimate version. DS is tempting as they are 1/4 as well, but that has got to be it. Got to stay focused. Even just staying within that scale, it's going to get overwhelming trying to keep up with what is coming in the upcoming years. Anyways, enjoyed the vid. Cheers.

Thank you for the video. I agree I have also decided not to preorder anything this year from p1 direct because of the ridiculous shipping charges and taxes. I will only buy from distributors here in Dubai. They have their ways to ship it cheaper, and they get like 20% from p1 so price works out better. Also incase there are any damages they can sort it out direct. Only problem distributors here dont offer all p1 pieces so yeah will have to wait and see. Any news about weta dead marshes I believe you pre ordered this piece

Prime1 could solve a lot of the gross shipping and reduce import costs by setting up proper regional distribution hubs or partnering with local distributor (like Weta did with Sideshow Collectables in States) but they don’t seem to want to do this they just Saddle EU / UK collectors with crazy non bulk shipping costs which of course leave you at full mercy of import / customs. I also think they are just steadily increasing prices because we are still buy whilst grumbling. They will keep increasing the price point for as long as they can just because they can and don’t really care.

Hoping box numbers get revised and shipping reduced. I see your points. PS - I have Weta Mouth of Sauron , its a fantatstic statue and still seen it at reasonable price with no import costs , but 1/6 which you not collecting. But Worth Considering ?.

Regarding the 2 boxes: If one box exceeds the 130" limit, you will be paying more for 1 box than you would have paid for 2. That may be why they did it. Maybe Aragorn was hit with the "Large Package" shipping price and despite being 2 boxes, Gandalf might come in cheaper for shipping than Aragorn?

Sauron was a great bargain when I compare it with the standard version and i don't know why the statues should justify a price increase of almost 500 € compared to the first 1/4 statues of the series.

Mate, that Gandalf Ultimate version is more than double what I paid for the QS Balrog bust! Okay, there’s more involved, but twice the price?!!… Nah! And that’s before you add at least another $600 to shipping!!. I know that there are different factors to, erm, factor in! But for me, I’ve made the right choice going the way I have!… it doesn’t detract from the fact that the P1 Gandalf is a superb piece! Just won’t be coming to the Haunt 😁👍🏻

@@hauntofthecollector I've been out of P1 for a long time, luckily they brought out Sauron and Gandalf vs Balrog first, today they would easily cost over 2000€ for Sauron and well over 2000€ for the diorama. I'll stay with Weta ( not cheap either) and United Cutlery but I've also ordered the Balrog bust and I'm looking forward to your video, it's been a long time since I've been so curious what your opinion will be.

I disagree - he (& his men) originally served Sauron!!! And when they did pledge allegiance to Isildur, they broke their oath when called upon! I'm 90% sure that the box number for the regular version is a mistake on the website. I've seen it happening too many times with Prime 1. They often makes this mistake. This is likely to be revised when it's close to shipping. again 90% sure. there is no way such a small piece comes in 2 boxes unless they are tiny. If the box numbers is what stopping you I think you should reconsider. ;) I would personally skip the balrog head I think it's too much.. the regular is very nice.

Good choice...it's for a different collection I think! As good as the Gandalf statue is (and I really quite like it), I shan't be going for it either...perfectly happy with my Weta Classic Series Gandalf. Space is limited and there are pieces I am much more excited about / waiting to be released for PO / revealed that I need the money and space for - DSCs Sauron / Isildur Grail, Gil-Galad, Weta ROTK 20 Anniversary - maybe a Witch-King, maybe a Denethor / Throne of Gondor, their Gil-Galad to go with Elendil and Sauron, Black Gate environment...it's unbelievable how spoiled for choice we are!

Hi friend! I tried to put the Gandalf DX in my shopping cart at Prime 1 Studio's website just to see what the shipping costs would be. I have no interest in this particular statue, but If I decided to purchase this piece I would have to pay $940 for shipping to Norway. $1949 + $940 for shipping + 25% tax, and we're looking at a subtotal of $3611. Now, I am not purchasing this piece due to no interest, but let's say if it was a piece I was interested in. This Gandalf statue is as much as the Ultimate Diorama Masterline Godzilla Final Battle Statue I have on pre-order from P1. It costs $1949 + $568 shipping + 25% tax, so the subtotal will land at $3146. Fortunately, I have it on downpayment and I have already paid the deposit, the first and second installment. Last payment is on shipment - which can be any day now. The shipping costs for this Godzilla statue to Norway is relatively "cheaper", presumably due to the weight and amount of boxes. The Gandalf weighs approx. 55kg's and ships in three boxes, which is insane, whereas the Godzilla Final Battle statue weighs approx. 27 kg's and ships in two. So, I think that is contributing factor to the different shipping costs. Regardless, this Godzilla statue will sadly be my last statue if the inflation continues at this rate.

@@hauntofthecollector I agree with you, Jason! I think they will experience a significant reduction in amount of customers in the future (starting now). It is sad, because it is not Prime 1 Studio's fault. I hope they will have enough customers to live off of, so they can't go potentially bankrupt. Highly unlikely, but It is only a hypothetical and negative thought. I know collectors who previously had several active pre-orders, but now choose to cancel them due to inflation. Collectors are becoming more selective accordingly to which product they ultimately choose to go for. Truly dark times for collectors across the globe

I was so hyped for the P1 Gandalf but I'm completely disappointed now. I don't like any of the bases. That Balrog base is a total fail for me. You can't even see his face from upfront. And that diorama, of course it's a cool touch, but it's completely useless because the normal collector will never see it. And the smaller base is just strange. I mean, it looks a bit like Orthanc but why is there wood? Gandalf itself looks pretty good but that alone isn't enough for me. Very sad because I wanted a Gandalf so bad. But I just preodered Gimli a few hours ago. Really love that piece.

Yes mate, my original hype for this piece has been certainly muddied! The fact the base (on the regular!) ships in its own individual box is just ridiculous!! And the Balrog base requires 2 boxes???… Each box will cost over $300 each to ship to UK! P1 have lost me on this one, I’m afraid!! Don't you feel it's become pointless to PO these types of pieces nowadays anyway? Edition sizes are so big and prices so high, pre-orders have a whole new meaning in 2023. On the other hand you have KD Collectibles for example (specialized in DBZ statues), with edition sizes like 200 or 300, pre-orders actually make sense in that situation. But when it comes to P1 statues, very few reach the status of justifying a pre-order. Even the acclaimed and super popular Batman DC #1000 statue is still widely available in its DX/bonus version, and it's not even that expensive for a huge1/3 compared to what prices are becoming lately

Hmmm, not really mate? Berserker regular edition size is 100!! Lurtz 250… Aragorn was 350 I think? Most of this line have been small ES? But that doesn’t really bother me to be fair, if I’m wanting something I just like to get my PO in and it’s sorted then? I was never interested so I never actually looked at the ES, thought they were huge, just like their Batman stuff. @@Siile_ yes mate, since the original Sauron release the ES has dipped quite a bit? I think the second largest ES is the Frodo & Gollum dio with an ES of 700 mate… 👍🏻

@@hauntofthecollector a lot of these would quickly become pricey grails with such low ES, but nowadays with the other studios, it's not like 15 years ago when all you could get for LOTR was the Sideshow/Weta stuff. At least it's great to know P1 are still making some truly collectible stuff, some of their ES are so high on other lines
