What're the company drivers making these days? Let's talk numbers - GROSS numbers! I had an average month in November and thought they'd be good numbers to share. Nothing extraordinary. No breakdown pay, no detention pay, no extra anything - just miles. Check out the numbers!

Glad he based this off a below average month, a lot of drivers really over exaggerate this stuff. I pulled reefer for prime about 4 years ago, didn’t make anything close to those numbers but it was my first year, glad I got my experience and jumped into some local work, nothing beats being home daily and off on the weekends! Y’all stay safe out there

What kind of work are you doing these days? Mind sharing the experience of going from OTR pay to local pay? Don't ever miss the OTR pay? I definitely don't like the exaggeration of numbers either. People love talking about their highest weeks but not their lowest week or average weeks. I actually just finished a video about being in the hole a few thousand bucks.

@@TravisKinley Prime was my first trucking gig so I really didn’t make a whole lot , I only stayed there to complete the contract since I went through their CDL training. I make a little more than double now then what I made with prime, I’m a gas hauler so having hazmat really helps with the money. If I were single with no kids I probably would’ve stayed but being otr is extremely difficult when you have a wife and kids and can only go home 4 days out of the month.

If you manage your time as best as possible and keep a good relationship with your FM, it’s really not difficult to get 2300-2500 miles weekly. The third week of December I got over 3K. It’s been another good run for me this month. This week is lower because of Christmas, but every other week has been pretty strong!

Travis is it realistic to get out of the truck 2 or 3 times a week maybe to do some minor tourist type activities as a company driver or do you think that is simply not realistic because of how things typically fall? For example, I’m parked at a truck stop for my 10 hour break in or near Cleveland and I want to catch an Uber to the rock and roll hall of fame a few hours, is that kind of stuff realistic maybe twice a week or not so much? Obviously on my 34 I’m sure it absolutely is but during the 70 as a company I’m curious if the company just runs you so sporadically that doing that kind of stuff midweek is just not feasible? Or catch an Uber go play golf, go to the beach, etc? Thank you very much. Of the dozens and dozens of videos I’ve watched I really appreciated how in this video you were so blatantly honest, forthcoming and directly to the point with some humor. Thank you again.
@TravisKinley
@TravisKinley 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. Since you’re a company driver, you cannot decline loads or do much scheduling for your truck - Prime does that for you. Since they do that for you, they want to keep your truck moving as much as possible so they can be as profitable as possible. As you said - on your 34’s that’s the perfect time. And if you’re intentional about running your hours thin, you can force 34’s.

Took me 3 months to complete...but they gon hold me for another 2 months (total of 5 months training) because my trainer likes the way I work and wants to keep me on the truck still under trainee pay while he pockets $6k-$8k a week trainers pay net. He and our fleet manager have an agreement to do so and I have no saying about it. I should be getting team pay but my trainer doesn't want that. This shit sucks! So it’s been a while since I watched this one, but I believe you’re talking 2200 miles in a week, right? If so - that’s just the total number of miles for all trips for that week. Could be broken into many trips. 4? 5? 6?

@@TravisKinley Thanks for the reply!! Yeah I was confused by that, I wanted to do Prime Inc. training program but when you were giving breakdowns talking about mileage I was like okay if this guy drove 2200 miles for example, is that you going to the place and back? Meaning say your destination is 300 away is that also counting 300 back to your trailer yard, Or is that to your destination and whatever mileage to come back will not count towards that . Everyone is different but in 2021 since my wife going back to college i went home for 4th of July and Thanksgiving. So i ran hard last year reason why I'm saying all this cause everyone is different but my truck grossed little over $216,000 as a solo flatbed. In 2020 i grossed little over $188,000 so it depends how hard you run as well make sure you know where the best paying loads are that you like to run. I've studied prime's network where loads i like to take and pick up.

So if i do refre and dry van together can i espect to do 3500 milles per week??
@TravisKinley
@TravisKinley 3 жыл бұрын
Prime doesn't have a dry van division specifically. So I assume you're talking about doing this idea elsewhere. Nevertheless, the problem with consistently hitting 3500 miles per week has nothing to do with the availability of freight. It has to do with the amount of hours you can legally drive in a day and week. You probably just took 3500 miles and divided it by 7 days in a week, right? Figured - sure, why can't I run 500 miles in a day every day. Here's a couple reasons why. 1. On drop and pick days - live loads and unloads can take hours. You'll spend a couple hours getting unloaded, drive 45 minutes up the road, spend a couple hours getting loaded, so you can drive a couple hundred miles and park it up or something. 2. Traffic doesn't always work in your favor. 3. Sometimes your loads land on a week that won't help you hit your mark. Point is - it just doesn't work that way. Folks don't walk around consistently hitting 3500 weekly, but you might hit it once every blue moon.

I appreciate this feedback; however, don’t forget Prime is a training company. We have people who have had NO trailer pulling experience whatsoever and came from homelessness to this industry. I think $1 a mile is a bit much for someone’s first day. Almost $10K a month to a rookie? I wouldn’t reject it, but I also don’t think a brand new rookie deserves it. Nevertheless, Id be glad for you to set my pay! Lol
