The prime minister of Grenada has issued fresh calls to King Charles and Rishi Sunak to apologise and pay slavery reparations to former colonies of Britain.
Speaking from his home in an exclusive interview with The Independent, Dickon Mitchell criticised Britain’s failure to atone for the mass enslavement of African people and said failing to do so sent a bad message.
“The UK wants to continue being a country that demonstrates that it upholds the values of justice, fairness, democracy, equal treatment of human beings then it should be upfront in apologising for slavery,” Mr Mitchell said as the nation prepared for its annual Spicemas carnival.

Yes, blacks were sold by other blacks, i am African myself and i am sick of everything being held back and put to a standstill by this subject of slavery. That is what every clueless leader use to hide their cluelessness with.

This is such a ludicrous suggestion that we should pay for the mistakes of previous generations , where does this stop, should Arab countries pay for the slavery they procured or the North African countries for the Barbary ska e trade . What about those within the African states that aided and abetted the capture of there own peoples.

Slave owners including living descendants down to this day reap the benefits of slave reparations, paid to the owners of slaves. While the slaves and descendants of slaves had all negative results, they to need to be compensated. Any thing is racist denial. The Arab slave trade didn't displace Africans to the other side of the world and force new language and culture, new names, totally stripping bare the identity of the people. The atrocities of the European slave trade still benefits you till this day. To argue and agree with the original comment here is nothing short of racist denial and or total ignorance of the slave trade and its results

America didn’t enslave any caricom nation, caricom asks for reparations from the european countries which enslaved us. The UK only abolished Slavery to cripple the French Economy there are enough source materials on this. The actions of the British government in paying slave owners for the loss of their property is a glaring acknowledgement of the dehumanizing and exploitative nature of slavery. This system has not only caused immeasurable suffering and trauma for millions of Africans who were forcibly brought to the Americas, but it has also greatly benefited white people and perpetuated systemic racism. Moreover, Western governments have shown a willingness to spend vast sums of money on war, yet they are hesitant to provide reparations to those who have been oppressed and exploited for centuries. It is a clear double standard that is further highlighted by the fact that the Jewish community received reparations from countries that had no direct involvement in the Holocaust. The countries responsible for inflicting damage upon Africans cannot be expected to act as fair arbiters in this matter. The victims of slavery, their descendants, must have a say in how to redress this injustice. However, the question remains: are we seen as less deserving of reparations because of our skin color? Is a person with a doctorate degree more intellectually equipped to make a judgment on this issue than someone with a double doctorate in Human Resources and Organizational Behavior? These are important questions that must be addressed as we continue to seek justice for the historical and ongoing injustices faced by people of African descent. As every religion teaches, what goes around comes around, and it is time for society to recognize and rectify the negative effects of slavery through reparations.
