I've been shooting with this rig for a while now and have to say it is worth a look. I don't usually use shoulder rigs for a couple reasons. They're expensive, bulky and kind of a fad. I much prefer using a monopod. But this rig is the exception. It's affordable, usable, efficient and expandable.

Haha haters gonna hate. I think that setup you made in the start is pretty awesome...all of them are. After seeing this, I'm 100% sold on the versatility of that type of shoulder pad. I'll probably get one of those leather small rig handles to keep things compact and inline. I totally had not considered adding length to the rig by just stretching the rails out like that, assumed it would be too weak but it clearly is not! Keep the great videos coming!!

I wanted to thank you, for one I have been looking for a low cost shoulder pad and the one you showed is a perfect solution. Second I never thought about using the offset the way you did, and I tried it on my rig and I get perfect balance. Keep up the good work on the reviews.

I use this rig with a GH4 + DEC Lensregain + Sigma 18-35 and it is incredible. I am super happy with it. I had a walimex for half the price before and the difference is enormous.

I've been using this rig for about 8 months, i LOVE it. for close to the same price you can also get the Reflex Rig. If you want this rig with a counterweight and better shoulder pad, the Reflex Rig will sell you a shoulder page with counterweight on the back that fits perfectly with this rig.

The way that you have that set up, I don't see how you can look through the viewfinder.

Can you please tell me what is the the top handle/cage on you rig setting? it does not come with the rig, right? I have been looking for a handle/cahe for low angle shooting.

Click on the link in the description and on my site search for "wooden camera quick cage" and you'll find my review on it.

I received the shoulder pad in the mail today, bad news it's a lot smaller than I thought it would be, which would work great for a non weighted rig, but unfortunately not for my set up. The good news is that I got an advertisement from them via email and they had a crazy offer for their slider they have. the width of it is 19", which is wider than the digital Juice slider that I was about to buy for more than twice the money. So all and all it was a win situation.

LOL, I just got an email from PNC and they said they made a mistake on the width of the slider on their website and it actually is only suppose to be 5",wide which makes more sense. I purchased it any way because for $189 you can't find a slider with that width and comes with feet.

You say you have the camera as far back as possible for balance and normally use a monitor. I tried the same but found out the monitor including battery made my rig front heavy again.

@WillingPeanut I am sure Caleb will prob have better info in the vid he is working on but for now you may find the following info helpful, do a quick search on ebay for 15mm rig weight, you should see many dif weights under $75 more so if you go for less then 3.5 pounds 3 should be less then $50 they are made for 15mm rails and should fit right on the rig.

Great content Caleb, any chance you could update the video with a "Best of 2018" should rigs for DSLRs?

Hello! This is by far the best review of this rig and I really want to get it. My problem is that there is no counterweight. Kamerar sells it but 3.5lbs for $75??? thats kinda insane. I was wondering if Opteka CBW-2 ($40 and 4.6lb) would fit or if you have any other suggestions for "cheap counterweights" at around 5lbs?

and also, I notice you don't have a follow focus. Is it really difficult to focus while moving?

It is silly, but weight can be expensive. I've found a couple solutions and will have a video out soon.

Would this shoulder rig be able to take on the weight of any of the cages sold by P&C/Kamerar?

Yes, I think that would work.

Sorry but the setup you made in the start is totally unusable filming like that as you won't be able to see the monitor on the back of the camera and need extra monitor to see what you are filming.

I didn't have my monitor on the rig in the video, but that is easily added. Hardly "Unusable" just add a monitor.

You create good videos, but this kind of misses the point. Why do all kinds of mods and additions for a review of a product. It would have been better if you would have simply reviewed what the consumer will be buying.

Dude if you're reviewing something, use the stuff that comes in the box. This is not an advertisement for how good your stuff is - its to inform people about the best way to get a decent filming experience.
