Thanks very much for this thorough video tutorial. And see 21:12 for a top-notch video showing the arc and weld puddle! Probably going to go with PrimeWeld's MIG180 based on this review to and others. Will be a nice complement to my PrimeWeld 225x for TIG/Stick. Have to admit to also eying the PrimeWeld Cut60 plasma cutter. Would make a nice machine trio on HarborFright's big, heavy-duty welding cart...

Good video. Make sure you turn the bottle "ALL" the way on because high pressure bottles have double ended valves so there's no leakage around the stem (you just opened it slightly at timeline 2:23-2:27). I like how it shows wire speed and voltage instead of Turn to A-B-C or 1-2-3, etc.

Very good thing to note .thank you

You're exactly right on turning on the valve all the way until it seats on high pressure tanks!!! That was the first thing they thought and stressed at welding school.

Nice video. But I will say you don’t always have to push your welds with mig. I’ve always drug my mig welds and have passed 1/2 inch thick bend test with it. So you can run it either way. I also agree with you on the whip, I always did C shape instead of straight stringers and never had a problem 👍🏼

If I want to be able to do tig as well as mig, spool gun and stick would you recommend the MTS200 or would it be better to just get the mig180 for mig/spool gun/stick and if I really want to do tig welding buy the 225 so I can have foot pedal and high frequency start.
@amcustomfab2 жыл бұрын
I would get the 180 and the 225

What are some good settings for the 110 setting
@amcustomfab2 жыл бұрын
I would start with what the chart ses and adjust from there
@bryanrios1462 жыл бұрын
Yea lol idk why i.would even ask that I forgot it had a chart. Also what would be a good generator I csn run this machine or the 225 tig welder. Or what wattage should I be aiming . If u don't me asking
@amcustomfab2 жыл бұрын
I have very little experience running on a generator I would call primewald and ask what the recommendations are I know they'd be happy to get you taken care of 😎👊

While running on 110v did you use an extension cord? If so what gauge did you use?
@amcustomfab2 жыл бұрын
No plugged straight into the wall
@betosgarage2 жыл бұрын
@@amcustomfab what would be a safe extension cord to use on this? Would 50ft 10gauge be ok? Or 12g 50ft do just fine
@amcustomfab2 жыл бұрын
@@betosgarage to not an electrician so I can't really make recommendations on extension cords but in general I try not to use them because it's not as good for the machines and can reduce performance. I will say the larger gauge the wire the better when it comes to welder and extension cords though
@wiredforstereo Жыл бұрын
@@betosgarage Thicker is better. If your welds aren't turning out well, then it's not working. There is no real recipe. Do what works. I always buy the thickest extension cord I can find. You never regret it. 10 GA all the way.

This was very informative. My question is, do u think there was a good enough penetration on the 1/2 coupon test?
@amcustomfab2 жыл бұрын
If it is plug Ed in to 220 yes an you can always do multiple passes on thicker material 😎

That welding Guide on the Door has one interesting Measurement, 2nd from the right, says 5/36", there is no measurement like that, I did a conversion and it seems it was supposed to be 9/64" which makes more sence.

Ya I not sure The reasoning for that or if it was a miss print

Seems to be pushing too much wire feed, if he back off wire speed not much splatter, notice the pass should have a sweet buzzz, but he has a uneven sound.

“Anti-Whippers” are mostly people who weld 1/8th inch or less material, but think they’re welding 1/2 inch. 😆 The same people who bevel 1/8th inch or less material. You’ve got to try pretty hard to not get penetration on thin metal.

I am often astounded by people asking about "what settings." Now I've been welding since grade school, so there's no substitute for experience. Do what it says on the machine (every machine should have a chart on/in the case) and then adjust the heat up a bit if you think you need it. That's it. I have only found one time that the machine chart was flat out wrong, my brother's big Miller, the setting for 3/16" steel is half a volt low, which made for disappointing performance until I figured it out. There is no substitute for practice and experience. Settings will not save you.
