2019 Ford Expedition | Here's What's Good & Bad After 1 Week!

Old video, but there’s a reason my my mother buys Expedition. Although skeptical of the new one that was realized in 2019 and the Ecoboost V6. we went out to NYIAS at the Javits. And the Expedition was the ONLY 3 row SUV that could fit our family, and our friends family without complaint! And on a test drive. She was very happy with the pickup of it! We bought ours and we had for 2 years. And no issues!

I have had my 2019 Expedition Platinum 4x4 with towing package since late March 2019. I’ve taken it on several interstate trips and use it as a daily driver. I have over 11,000 miles on it and have changed the oil twice. I find that putting the drive mode at the “Economy” setting makes it shift the smoothest for the way I drive around town (counterintuitive). The onboard MPG computer says I’ve averaged just over 19 mpg since I drove it away from the dealership. To get a Navigator trimmed with what I have in the Expedition would have cost another $10k but would have been worth it for someone who didn’t flinch at that. I agree with everything the reviewer says in this video.

‘09 EL/Max here. I use it as my contractor work truck, and love/use all the cargo space behind drivers seat. Would like to do TRUE off-road packages, but with independent suspensions, best that can be done is restrictive bigger tires.

Platinum is the only way to go. For 10k less than the Lincoln is a no brainer, the massage seats are great. After my 2nd Expedition I could not take that weak V-8 Ford any longer and went to a Denali 6.2. The twin turbo Ford V-6 and the 6.2 GM are close to equal power otherwise for the fuel economy, Ford wins hands down.

I purchased a platinum 3 months ago. I agree with all the likes and most of the dislikes. Especially the floaty part. I conducted hours upon hours of research between the expedition and the suburban. As Chevy has not changed their style yet, I chose Ford. For me, great choice.

The one thing that all reviewers should mention is the average price paid or typical deals and rebates. In St Louis by March of 2019 through end of year our Ford dealers were taking 17-21% off sticker, there were no dealer add on BS. Ford sells a lot in this market and its very competitive in the truck and suv segment between brands. So is a 70k Expedition a good value at 56k?

They went from the 5.4 v8 to the 3.5 six cylinder - wish they would have put the 5.0 v8 in it without all the turbo chargers on it. Nice review.

Platinum Expedition fully loaded is around $80,000. Comparable luxury sister Navigator, the Select is 2 trims up the ladder, with a seating package to add heated and cooled seats, to compare to a Platinum Expedition. Without that package (heated seats are standard on the Select Navigator), you have to go 3 trims up to the Reserve. Comparable Select is about $86,000, Reserve is $90,000. It is hard to find a Select with heated and cool seats, as Ford wants you to pay more and get the Reserve model instead. So in reality, it is a $10,000 difference to upgrade to a comparable Navigator. But if one can drop $80,000 for an Expedition (Expy), I think they can afford $90,000 for the Navigator (Navi). GM triplets are no cheaper if equipped the same, and at times even more. Saying that, if I could afford it, it would be a Ceramic Pearl Tri-Coat Metallic Navigator with Russet seats...

Blackerton I don’t know about all that but I have a 2019 expedition Limited max and it came with LED headlights heated and cooling seats for the first and second row front side and back cameras.. the stepping board goes up & down when you open/close the door to step up in .. intelligent cruise control to where it slows down if you get too close to the car and then speeds back up, rain sensing wipers, big screen with the navigation..and lot of other things... and it ended up being around 73,000..All black and black rims with silver trim… Pretty bad ass and fun to drive… But I see the bad things that he’s talking about and it’s true still over all fun vehicle.. The dealer told me that the only difference between mine and the navigator was about 10..15 grand and a little bit more chrome. Not too much more..

I had an '03 Expedition and loved it. Wore it out! Now I have a '13 Explorer and hate it. I hate the jerky transmission with the Flex fuel feature, the shallow seats with no thigh support (my inseam in 29"), the aggressive head rest is ruining my posture. I want to go back to an Expedition but the price is stupidly high.

Spot on. We have a 2019 truck and 2014 expedition. The truck is floaty and has a wonky transmission. The expedition has the 5.0 engine and I pull a lot of bis stuff with no problems. Thinking about a newer expedition and they are so much more loaded out than a Yukon. Seats are so much more comfortable. But my 2014 is still so awesome. Will prob wait a while

We have a '19 XLT Max FX4 w/ tech pack. Transmission is a rockstar for my driving style and sport mode really helps if you like it holding gears in higher revs. Agree on the bit of float under certain road conditions. It is way better on the on the Max (never felt unsafe) than the reg length wheelbase. Also adding a true AT tire with a 10 ply sidewall helped ground the truck under turning and accelerating lightness. The headlights are the halogen projectors on the top optioned XLT and they aren't great but the auto high beam system is way way more responsive than our old Ram so high beams do help illuminate when you really need it. I'd say last dislike is the sound system on the XLT with all the options. I've never been an aftermarket stereo guy but this truck needs some help if you like listening to music. In retrospect, we'll see how handy the FX4 package (locking diff) comes in handy this winter otherwise the Limited or Platinum would likely help the truck out in the sound and slightly in the lighting dept.

2019 Ford Expedition Max Platnium. Bought used at 45k miles, rear AC broke in shop 20 days, 1st to 2nd gear jerk in shop for 7 days. 10 speed tranny overheated towing nothing in shop for 24 days, and this is the 2nd replacement tranny. One Seat belt sensor defective air bag light on - this causes the air bag system to NOT DEPLOY, in shop for 7 days. Keyless entry not working after any rain. Drove 11k miles over 20 months, in ford shop 58 days. I would say this suv was rushed into production.

Have a 2018 XLT Max 4X4 with towing pkg. Compared to a similar level Suburban with 5.3L and 6 speed the Expedition is a rocket ship (heavy on ship, this thing is huge). Love the torque and power from the 3.5 eco boost and 10 speed. Third row seat leg room is best of any and all three row SUVs on the market. As noted this a very comfortable vehicle to drive and ride in. I have four adult children and they like road trips in this way better than our old Suburban.

I drove a 2016 expedition el . It was great. Hauled people round trips of nearly 700 miles, 2 to 3 times a week. I just bought a used one with 33k miles on it. Where I live it is great in the bad weather we get. I don't know about spending over 100k on a new one. But if you have the means. Buy away.

I have a 2019 ford expedition that I purchased used. I love the SUV and I've been able to get used to it's size but I agree on the trans, it can be a bit jerky. One pro I will give it hands down is the power is great. I have my expedition in the shop due to a fender bender, and I have a ram 1500 laramie as a loaner, it feels very under powered compared to my expy.

Good review. However, you missed two important negatives, one, huge turbo lag and two poor breaks. I had owned a 2012 Ford expedition (5.4l v8), that truck had much better automotive characteristics (power, handling, breaking etc). I am disappointed getting the newer version (2020).

I’ve noticed on mine when we roll the windows down the inside material on the ceiling below electric sunroof makes so much noise from air blowing in, very irritating.

XLT Max: Gear shifting does seem rough at times. The factory non-BO head unit is really nice if you add aftermarket speakers and amps. 20” wheels seem small, look small too… the tire and wheel combo could be “24 on 295 if they fit, it would look better. The B pillar hasn’t presented any problems for me and as the driver it really isn’t recommended to turn your head back that far while driving. I never cared for a sunroof but this one is phenomenal!

Loaded Telluride is about what an entry-level Expedition is. But the Expedition is a much better vehicle long term. It's the industry standard.

I think it wouldn´t be a fair comparison , first of all the the size category! in and out, and many other important comparison parameters such as engine type and size, off-road ability, tow capacity, ... I think the two are not comparable, they differ from each other in so many ways. Am not an expert reviewer, but I can say, In my opinion, The Telluride would be more to compare to the Explorer or Chevy blazer to name few

I bought a leftover 2019 Expedition early December and it has so many bells and whistles, I’m scared to drive it. I have had it for 6 weeks and only got 270 miles on it. It looked great sitting in the garage until I bought a custom car cover for it. I have put the cover on it only once and it has not came off of it yet!!! Love the driving feel but still scared and to accustom to my 20 year old vehicles. They are all Ford family vehicles too.

I hate that new vehicles have a dial or push button instead of a lever for the shifter. As for the buttons my dad had that on a 1949 car. It was crap. The buttons would fall out of the space.

I have one 18 ltd without the 22s and ccd. I will comment on your likes and dislikes: Likes-comfort and space is top tier. No other suv pd comes close to comfort and space of the expy. I love the powertrain, its powerful and efficient when u want it to be, mostly. Dislikes-the leds should be std. Mines didnt have leds and the halogens are terrible, esp with how the projectors are designed. The tranny does behave odd at times. Once it learns your behavior, it performs better but still has its hiccups. Lastly, minee does not have ccd like what was tested. With that said, the base suspension is more firm so it has better body ctrl esp on bumpy roads, but you lose the amazing isolation of the ccd. At times its too firm and bad roads cause it to jitter hard but still mostly comfy

I took an Expedition Max on a cross country trip from Maryland, through the rolling hills of Pennsylvania, through upstate New York, and cross border into Ontario Canada and back, 1450 miles round trip. This all Black SUV gets respect. I did experienced the Floaty ride on the way up to Buffalo. I fixed that by adjusting the cold inflation tire pressure from the recommended 35 psi to 38 psi. The ride firmed up quite good, but I was fearful of a blow out, and so monitored the Pressured constantly. The onboard tire pressure monitor indicated a tire pressure rise to a maximum of 41 psi for the last 750 miles of the trip. The tire sidewall information indicated a maximum inflation pressure of 44 psi.(That left me with a 3 psi margin). I checked a tire store and all the replacement tires(18 inch) all had the same 44 psi max. The Tires for this 5600 pounds SUV had a maximum inflation pressure of 44 psi, while the vehicle recommended tire inflation pressure is 35 psi(That is a 9 psi margin)..... weird...my sedan tires have a maximum inflation pressure of 51 psi, with a recommended inflation of 35 psi..margin of 16 psi...Again I say 44 psi maximum is weird and low for a 5600 pounds vehicle..

Here’s a rebuttal: - Transmission - it’s not smooth. It’s very inconsistent and has rough shifts. It shouldn’t be like that. - floaty ride - very minor because it’s still comfortable, but certain roads and areas it will feel like you don’t have adequate control of such a big vehicle - expensive - that one explains itself - huge B pillar - yes, you can buy extra little blind spot mirrors…but hardly anyone does. Sometimes a blind spot monitor is t reliable and nothing beats looking over your shoulder for safe lane changes - halogen headlights - they’re terrible. If you out LEDs into typical reflector halogen housings…you’ll blind everyone. Hence why so many people hate LEDs. Many people out them in the wrong housings and it sprays light everywhere. I’m not asking you to agree with me, I’m just letting people know. You don’t have to like it
