best way to reduce aggression in mbuna tanks is to provide enough rock work for the fishes to swim through to break up line of sight and the overstock. When there are way too many fishes for the dominant fish to attack it tends to disperse the aggression. Very nice fish and great fish room.

What an incredible fish room tour! I have to say that Joanna's Brown Tank has to be one of my favorite aquascapes.💯💪 I love how it looks like you're looking into a little piece of nature! I'm like you Jason I love the lizard tails 😍 really neat fish! I really enjoy the fish and community in this aquarium! It's really neat to see some different kind of live bearers. just beautiful.Are some of these fish in there considered more delicate, as in you have to be more careful with water parameters? I know how to keep water quality in check...I'm just really trying to learn the correct way to keep things let the pH and the KH where it needs to be. I'm hoping I can try my hand at some more unique fish! And these are just some of my favorites!! I really haven't figured out which one of your fish are my favorites because they're all fantastic! I've been more focused on getting my aquarium set up with plants and being a natural ecosystem, now I'm really starting to venture into figuring out what kind of fish I would like to keep! This video really helps me with that because you give such a great description of what you have going on with these tanks and your personal experience with keeping the fish within them! Thank you all so much for everything you share! I know I've said it before, but you guys are really one of the best channels out there for learning about fish and the aquariums we keep! Thanks for all you do..you know how much y'all inspired me. You definitely make me want to learn more!!🙏🌿🐟🌿💚
@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I really don't make any attempt to change water parameters from one tank to the next. They are basically all pH - 8.0-8.2, GH and KH around 180ppm or so and temps ranging form 77-80 depending on where the tank is located in the room. In some ways it limits us as to what we can easily breed, but for now that's ok. :-)

@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
We are very lucky in that our fishroom maintains temps very well. Our heating unit is in our basement and by opening the vents it usually maintains the tanks at 78 degrees along with the dehumidifier. In the summer we close the vent and the dehumidifier does the rest.

@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
I probably wouldn't mix the shellies. From an aggression perspective mbuna often ignore rock dwellers. The only issue you may have is the rock dweller being out-competed for food and maybe a little stressed with all the activity from the mbuna?

@PrimeTimeAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Hey - I took a look at your video. A few things to consider. 1) In the video you had the tanks away from the wall. I would probably move all the racks against the walls once you get the auto water change set up. It will give you more space. 2) Make sure you have at least 8" of space to work on the smaller tanks and at least 12" of space from the top of a tank to the bottom of the rack above it for anything larger (even 12" is cutting it close). I HATE some of my stands were I didn't leave enough space. 3) If you are going to have tanks on the floor I wouldn't put anything in them that you want to observe a lot. Most people I know with large fish rooms (including myself) don't wind up looking at the tanks that are on the floor very often. 4) If you have tanks on the floor you will want to make sure you have a floor drain otherwise draining will be very difficult. 5) You mentioned live streaming in the fish room. If you do that you might want to consider having the air pump outside that room. They are fairly quite, but not nearly quite enough to leave running while doing videos. I shut mine off when I do videos. WIth the air pump somewhere else it will be such a nice improvement over my fish room. :-) 6) Those fish tank racks should be awesome! They will hold a lot of weight. 7) Will you have running water in the room or close by? I know you mentioned auto water change, but you'll need a large sink for cleaning stuff and running water into tanks for breakdowns, rescapes, etc. 8) How will you control humidity? Even with the tanks covered, without a dehumidifer we could easily get to 70% humidity in our fish room. With it running 24/7 we stay in the low 50s. 9) I would definitely have at least two outlets piped in on each wall (I think you mentioned that though). 10) Will you need a space heater or some other way to maintain temperature (assuming you're going to heat the room and not the tanks)? You have a nice space there that should be relatively easy to maintain and make awesome! Good luck and have fun with it!
@ADHDAquatics3 жыл бұрын
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you for taking the time! I really appreciate it a lot. I won't have tanks on the floor the lowest will be on the bottom shelf set to the lowest setting. I also think I have 12 inches above the 40 breeders. I was going to have my husband hook up some sort of fan or air exchange system for the humidity even if we just run a dehumidifier that's hard plumbed to the drain. We're in Utah where it's very dry so I expect to get a lot of evaporation but not have mold issues. I Greg sage mentioned I should do well with just a fan in the window. For heating the room I was going to use space heaters but we may install some gas fireplace or something. My husband does HVAC he may be able to come to some creative solution. I want it to be quiet, efficient and save on energy costs. I never would have considered the air pump in another room. Everyone says the piston air pumps are quieter than the diaphragm ones. Now that you mention it I will definitely consider doing that. I may have to install a switch to turn it off easily from the ground. I have a big sink in the kitchen in the basement for a running water source but possibly will be installing a slop sink in this room. I think I answered everything you asked lol its hard to tell on KZbin. I really appreciate you taking the time thank you 😊 keep up the good work
