Oh & I found a creature tank that's the size of the self (width & length of a 10 gallon) but short like the 2.5 gallon glass one (I just got) & I can divide it so it can fit 2 fish so I can get rid of 1 of my current tanks". It's since been about 3-4 weeks and only one has died, there are tons of females with growing saddles, the algae problem has disappeared and they have already grown significantly! Definitely the single most interesting freshwater snail, hands down. They stay outside of their shells 90% of the time, breed extemely easy ESPECIALLY in very high calcium water, are friendly, cute, large when adults but micro as babies, and are very hardy. 20/10 aquarium friend right there, no doubt. Id recommend them to anyone who doesnt have crabs or crayfish in their tank (my thai micro crabs were once in a tank with mystery snails, until i saw the snails antannae touch the crab, causing the crab to pinch and latch onto the antannae and hurt the snail, poor lil one 😢 so i had to seperate them) get some mystery snails guys, you wont regret it!

I stress this: IF you are good at keeping consistant water parameters in a small aquarium, Thai Micro Crabs are amazing for them. A nicely scaped 5.5 gallon tank, can be amazingly beautiful and interesting for these crabs, i love all of mine. Theyre each less than 1cm long. They eat algae, they love plants, my tank has some hornwort, some marimo moss balls, some duckweed, an amazona sword compacta, and a small fern, with a substrate thats a mix of sand and small gravel, with a few larger rocks for them to hide under, and one larger decor piece for them to hide under. Low lighting, reasonable temps, fully freshwater, dont go on land, cant hurt or pinch you, clean, hardy, also one interesting thing: no ones supposedly been able to breed them in captivity past baby stages. Love mine, youd love em too!

But, its fun looking in the plant life and finding little crabs in leaves with their arms stretched all the way to the air as they fish for algae and food particles in the water. Very easy to take care of and require only 2 mins of attention a day, just to feed algae and switch the filter.

I'm actually getting a zoo med creatures den low profile to use for a betta tank. It's as long and wide as a 10 gallon but only as tall as the 2.5 gallon glass tank. It holds about 7 gallons so I'm wanting to divide it in 2 for use with 2 male Bettas & maybe some ramshorn snails or ghost shrimp. I do have really hard water (GH 14 degrees on average). So any plant, shrimp, or snail suggestions would be helpful. Currently my 3 mystery snails have tripled in size since I bought them about 4 months ago. I have an Anubis Nana that has also tripled or more since I bought it about 6 months ago & my marimo moss balls are thriving well also. My money wort seems to be having trouble but I suspect it's the extremely low light (buying a new one). Thankfully I do already have a glass canopy that will fit the new tank. I'm also planning to use a sponge type filter so the lid will fit fully closed. I do have a small question, I love Ottos and was wandering if I could put some in with 1 betta in that size of tank if I don't divide it & only put them. I know Ottos like to be in groups but I forget how big of a group. The last time I had them I only had 3 & they died one by one a few years after buying them. The last 1 wound up solo for about 3 yrs before he died at 5 yrs old, but he was kept company by my albino Cory cat who out lived her mates as well. I make snail jello & feed my snails a rotation of tablet foods & some of my hermit crabs' pellets, & fresh veggies (except not so much fresh/frozen veggies as there's none left to buy right now). I'm trying to figure out a jello recipe that they'll just devour. They eat it, but there's always left overs. Maybe I'm just giving them too much as it is only 1 snail in a 5.5 gallon & 2 in the 10 gallon. I use small shaped silicone ice cube trays like pineapple, pumpkin, or flower shapes & cut in 3rds. I would also like to know, what other plants are good for nano tanks?
@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
So for me otos have never worked out. Not sure why, but they just don't last for me. I really think they would like to be in big groups - like 15 or more and ideally dozens. When it comes to gel food, I really like Repashy. My bottom feeders eat that stuff like crazy! Plants for a nano tank - maybe anubias nana or petite, crypts if you are willing to trim them back a little, frog bit?

with what you say about the shrimp let me ask you this. What is the experience or skill needed to take care of shrimp cause I’ve been into fish keeping a few years now and still don’t feel like I can keep shrimp. It’s hard to when shrimp run so high but can be a bit of a challenge to keep. Is it easier to trial and error with shrimp? Is it just knowing the water parameters? I think I got that part down. I had ghost shrimp live some time for me now, some cherry but kept losing amanos and so I never went any further

I've been able to keep a ghost shrimp with my betta. Just be sure you have small hiding places for your shrimp. It is vulnerable when it molts. Live plants also helps it hide.

Nice video and suggestions. I will say that a betta with a small peaceful schooling species works quite well in a 5.5 gallon, if you have a betta with a gentle temperament. With the betta I keep (6 cardinals, 8 lampeye killifish, 1 nerite, 1 amano, 3 kuhli loaches, and 1 tiny bristlenose pleco that will get moved to a larger tank at some point).There are a lot of fish in my 5 gallon at the moment, but it works very well and as long as I keep up with water changes, I haven't had any issues. I have been keeping fish for many years though, so for a beginner, I would recommend reduced stocking of only one schooling fish species; such as 1 betta, 1 nerite snail, and 6-8 small peaceful schoolers (like lampeyes, cardinals, embers, or some of the micro-rasboras). Again, this is all very dependent on the individual betta, maintaining high levels of biological filtration and maintenance schedules, and sometimes, luck. Cheers!
@maialulu78855 жыл бұрын
You have way too many fish in your tank and that pleco is going to mess up your ammonia levels and you’re also stunting the pleco, please either get rid of him or upgrade him to a 30 gallon you shouldnt have that many fish in a five gallon you’re giving misleading advise
@bradenr51375 жыл бұрын
@@maialulu7885 I appreciate the concern. Here's my rebuttal... I have no detectable ammonia or nitrate levels given all of the plants I have in the tank and my water change schedule. I'd like to see the evidence behind stunting the growth of the pleco. Why do you say 30 gallons? Is it just an arbitrary number or educated guess that a website or guide book gives you? I recommend you read an article posted by the injaf, titled, “Do fish grow to the size of their tank?” I understand that a 5 gallon is not a permanent home for a pleco, even a bristlenose. However, being less than 1.5 inches, I am not one bit worried about keeping him in my current setup. Fishkeeping is about experimenting, while also considering general guidelines for fish welfare. There are many commonly perpetrated myths of the hobby, like the one-inch of fish per gallon rule, that many people take to heart. This is just a guideline. My advice...do your research, be smart about stocking decisions, consult with LFS owners and other hobbyists; and then, give it a try. Remember to closely monitor the inhabitants and water chemistry for any issues. Happy fishkeeping!

Geez...I thought I overstocked my 10 gallon with 6 harlequin rasboras, 5 espei rasboras, 2 otos, 2 panda corys, 5 amano shrimps, 1 nerite and 1 paradise gourami. But its heavily planted with stem plants and rhizome plants and floaters too feeding off nutrients in both the substrate and water column. I got my panda corys, otos, amanos, and nerite cleaning up algae, leftovers and waste. I only feed once daily to my rasboras and my corys. My paradise gourami I feed twice a day. Honestly, there aren't many convenient ways to lower hardness and pH. The easiest way for me to do it is using the water that comes out of my dehumidifier (or collecting rain water), but I haven't gotten around to doing that.
@jimanast35933 жыл бұрын
@@PrimeTimeAquatics David Sharp Idk about dehumidifier maintenance (also about rain water, but I'm making preparations for harvesting & using it) but an A/C technician (also an aquarium keeper) told me that A/C water is OK, but only 2 months after maintenance, because of the possibility of fungus growth in the A/C. I told him (to U also), it's good to wait for the A/C to work a couple of days, so that maintenance chemicals be gone away, because he already told me that they R harmful, so they shouldn't be in a tank. This applies only for water produced while cooling, because, while heating, water comes from the outer unit, there is a lot of debris, so, mixed with tap water to raise the pH, it's good for watering plants only. Besides, in case next year the A/C has no maintenance, there isn't only the fungus possibility, but also dust debris in the water harvest.

Do you think it's okay to put 8 neon tetras in a 5 gallon aquarium? I'm actually looking into the diamond head variety for an aquascape I'm going to get started, but am not sure if 5 gallons would even suffice. I thought about the green neon tetras, but I hear they hide everytime you go anywhere near the tank. Do you know if this is true?
@PrimeTimeAquatics4 жыл бұрын
We have green neons in a 33 long and they seem to stay out most of the time. As far as the 5.5 gallon - it might work. They are a little more active so that could be an issue.

What are your favorite equipment choices for smaller tanks? Lights, filters, heaters....

Aquatop Forza 5-15 filter, there are no really good heaters that I know of so I buy the cheap ones at Petsmart. The smaller Aqueon clip-on lights do well for us. I also like the small Finnex lights.

I am kind of surprised I don't know what size my tank is but I got the largest one I could carry upstairs on my scooter and I have a male crown tail in with five guppies they're all male but they all get along quite well I think it's because my tank is heavily planted at least I think so when he's annoyed with the guppies he'll just go hang out but he's not aggressive not at all in fact he's pretty docile I lucked out I've got a female betta her name is Cherry she hangs out with five guppies too and another tank They all get along really well no fighting no nothing What I noticed is when I had my guppies and a big tank they actually were tail nipping so I had to separate them and put them in different categories all the ones that got their fins nipped one in one tank and then the other stayed in a different one Surprisingly the one who doesn't get along with other fish is my female betta Tigress She doesn't like the commotion of guppies and so she has her own tank by herself so I think all in all they're all doing quite well and since I have almond leaves in the water and I have salt aquarium salt with aloe vera I think the fins will will heal I'm thinking it'll take 3 to 4 months for their friends to grow back and usually Saturday is monitor the fish tanks day

@shannonrhoads7099 Жыл бұрын
I have been looking into nano tanks since my last attempt (10 gallons) violated my lease. I only avoided issues becasue I reported myself right before adding fish to the cycled tank. I should know soon if *any* size aquarium is allowed. It isn't in a 'prohibitied' items list, but rather a 'get permission' section that includes a lot of unrelated things like waterbeds and musical instruments. Considering that they happilly let ME of all people have an electric guitar but said no a 10 gallon aquarium, I do not know how future discussions will go. 😆 Is a 5.5 tank too small for, say, 3-4 skirted tetras and a snail or two? I have kept those before...

Can 2 small variatus platys and 3 white cloud minnows live in a 6.6 US gallon tank or is it to small?

I think the platies are ok. The issue with the white clouds is they are better off in a larger group, but you already had them they would probably do ok in that tank.

I tend to like to keep both in a larger tank just because of their activity level. They will get along fine, but may be too active for a 5.5.

Artemis Argotera (or: Αργότερα;) Cleaning up crew, doesn't pollute, it is cleaning the tank in fact (unless there isn't sth to be cleaned & have to B fed too). There is an opinion that even cleaning fish, shouldn't be counted for calculating the bioload, perhaps a little bit, they should, because we feed them once a day. About snails: After checking by calculating, I proved to myself that even the biggest apple snail of Φ ~7 cm, doesn't count more than a 5 cm fish, regarding it's volume! So, don't worry about snails.

Depends on the type of crab and the size of the fish. Micro crabs will be eaten by just about everything. Pom pom crabs are a little bigger, but the fish would still have to be small.
