The reason I love thrifting at stores or yard sales, estate sales is that you find the oddest looking items. Historical, unusual, and valuable to somebody!!!! I like to curate items, vs. getting pallets and "rescue" boxes. I want to see it, feel it, research it.

I wouldn't have paid $35 for that bust. No way did it look 'real' or ancient to me. She had a good eye. I'd love to know how much she got. I like Dominous Caroneous, especially in a toga! What an ugly ashtray! Another good one PTTH.

Thanks Lina! Dominicus Caroneous it is! I’ll grab the toga lol
@timhazeltine32562 жыл бұрын
The buyer likely realized it was carved marble, which meant it's worth much more than $35.00, even if it's a copy. The style of the bust is consistent with portraits of the Imperial Family created during the reign of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. While Roman art was frequently copied between the 16th and 19th centuries, the fact the portrait bust was in a royal collection is a good indicator of authenticity.

If they're holding listings back and favor of all promotions. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen. It's not right. I would have more respect for eBay. If they said, let's just charge you $5 to list each item. I'm sick of this discussion

The question is....how did King Ludwig acquire the bust?
@PrimeTimeTreasureHunter2 жыл бұрын
He bought it
@bruceweigle75972 жыл бұрын
ironic that the bust was basically stolen a couple thousands of years ago and thats how it ended up in Bavaria in the first place.
@GrinderCB2 жыл бұрын
Seems every reseller and group is talking about that Roman statue bought at the Goodwill store. In the end it appears that even at $35 Goodwill was the only ones who profited. The woman who bought it doesn't get to keep it or resell it since it was claimed by a town in Germany as one of their artifacts that was looted during WWII. A museum in Texas will show the bust before it goes back to Germany and will therefore benefit from entrance fees and increased donations. But what about the woman who paid $35 for it?
@PrimeTimeTreasureHunter2 жыл бұрын
Did you watch my video? I addressed all of those points and answered your question.

The Etsy strike didn't make sense to me. Their fees are still lower than eBay. The listing fee sucks, but still ends up as lower fees than eBay. The real problem with Etsy is the number of users. My sales are slow there compared to eBay. It's more Instagram/social platform, if likes equaled sales, I'd be crushing it. If people want to be in a union for the secure pay & healthcare, then you're going to have to work for someone else; a big corporation or government. Running your own business is independence, you have to hustle to make that stable income.

Question. Why would the lady be in trouble for selling it when Goodwill is not in trouble for selling it? Ignorance is not a reasonable defense for breaking the law. This is just a question to open and start a dialog not trying to throw Goodwill under the bus.

Because Goodwill didn’t know and she did. Intent matters.

But why would Germany legally own Roman artifacts. How did they get them in the first place ????
@PrimeTimeTreasureHunter2 жыл бұрын
Not sure but possibly purchased
@timhazeltine32562 жыл бұрын
Because it was purchased by King Ludwig I in the 19th century long before current laws regulating the sale of antiquities came into effect. Germany, as the political successor to the Kingdom of Bavaria, is considered the owner. I don't know if physical ownership is vested in the federal German government or the state of Bavaria, which is roughly comparable to the status of a U.S. state.

Germany doesn't deserve to get anything back that was stolen from them during world war II after the genocide they committed during that war. It's one thing giving art back that was stolen by the germans. But if it was something that was stolen from Germany then they should no longer have a claim on it.
