I love how his desire for the pie grew until the fantasy of it became something unreachable. It was probably really good pie but because he kept getting denied, his expectations for the pie only grew, leaving him unsatisfied when he finally got to try it.

I heard an interview with Alan Ritchson where he said the pie wasn't actually that good in real life. So Reacher's reaction was influenced by the actor's reaction. But I like your theory about the dream of the pie couldn't match the reality after all that waiting.

You’ve gotta remember that in real life, people like Mirko Crocop and Chuck Liddell would happily fight guys who look like this. Then probably win too. Real fighters don’t care about your size, and they will underestimate you before they stop believing in themselves. This is a fictional piece of work.

My older brother(18years older to be exact) was teaching me how to box. I was proud of my progress and knew my dad had boxed when he was younger so made sure to roughhouse with him when he was in the mood. In about 12 seconds he had squeezed every pressure point id ever heard of and more when i stopped and gave him the "what the heck dad" look he grinned and said. This aint a ring and there aint no ref. Boxings a fine thing but you better be ready for anything if you end up in a fight out here boy. Best dad ever😊

just as Roscoe said Reacher is a no nonsense type of guy which is beautifully shown in the last pie scene (when he finally had chance to taste it) he wouldnt let anyone influence him to the point of believing something is "The best around" just because everyone says so... he simply tastes it and realizes its not that special without thinking twice about what everyone told him

I’ve been reading Lee Child since he released Killing Floor ( if you’re unaware that’s the name of the book this is based on and was his first novel) I’m a blues lovin guitar player and the title caught my eye on a rack. I haven’t missed a book, this series nailed the book which means he did an excellent job of creating imagery in the book. The movie matched what my minds eye saw when I read it ( all except the initial cafe arrest. In my mind he was sitting on the other side of the cafe when the cops busted in… but then, I am a little dyslexic…lol). Of course, he did used to be a screenwriter, so it’s kinda his jams. If ya missed it, that was Lee child doing a cameo bumping into reacher in the cafe at the end. Want to see them make every one of them into a series cause a movie doesn’t get all the nuances that make these characters. And Tom Cruise sucked as reacher. Defining characteristic of Reacher is massive. In the books, this guy one hands 100 lb bags of concrete and other frequent demonstration of exceptional siz and strength. and Child very often spells out his specs of 6’5” and 250 lbs. he clearly wants his readers to have this picture in their minds. Imho My understanding is that Lee Child couldn’t take seeing cruise as reacher anymore when he so clearly wasn’t him.

That pie scene is absolutely legendary. The entire character in all of its depth, a character we could easily hate outside of context that isn't often entirely provided - or later revealed - is perfectly painted. You just know the man is badass, gentle, violent when necessary, extremely disciplined, respectful to aT, and never unhappy no matter what. He stays positive and curious about anything that life throws at him. Genuinely he is a little boy in a very massive body with very dangerous skills, but that little boy is still shining, exploring and going on adventures. That's why he's unstoppable.
