Dad was raised up on the Texas side of the Red River back in the 20's thru the 40's, near Sivells Bend, and spoke of He and his brothers seining it's many offshoot sloughs. Beginning from chest deep across the width of them, back to where they ended at their shores. Many were the Community "fish fries" that were held on Sundays from their bountiful catches that previous day. Catfish in ranges of 40 to 60 lbs. were not uncommon to them. Appreciate your continuous zeal, Bob & Crew... for making "The Logic of Practical Survival" so real. -gilpin 8-13-16

Bob... you do realize that your pet dog actually thinks that you are his pet ?....you do all the work and he gets fed for just watching and sitting- along with an occasional bark here and there ;-)

The thing I love about this channel is that he can always make a video because there is ALWAYS something to learn about survival and you can't teach it all. So that means amazing and educational videos for quite some time. Favorite KZbin channel.

Bob - I am incredibly impressed by your knowledge and technique. You spent a lot of time constructing the fence for your trap. You also spent a great amount of time and displayed tremenduous creatativy when fabricating your yucca net. May I suggest you employ the same talent and technique to construct fence sections for a not-so-primitave fish trap? You could install and remove such a trap in a few minutes. Your labor in making the fence sections could be an investment in your survival effofts. I am totally impressed with your knowledge and capability. God bless and good luck my friend.

In a survival situation...those small perch & blue gill would make excellent bait for bigger fish. All the leftover scrap from the crayfish would be excellent bait for more fish & crayfish. Making this trap the trap that keeps on giving. Great video Bob...I'm sure that this trap can b adjusted to many situations & would provide excellent food sources for long term survival.

Being a primitive survivalist myself, I have a tendency to be a little more critical of these videos. In your case, however, I have nothing to say, which is rare! Nice job. Good cadence in your descriptions... Not afraid to get in there and get wet... And, you have shown the public what I believe is one of the best, most basic, easiest traps to make in a real survival situation. You also brilliantly illustrated the keys to success - gathering what you need first and then taking the time to do it right. Most folks, myself included get impatient with how much longer things take than you realize. Excellent work. Thank you for posting.

Lee Ralph: Yes, a concern, but thing is, we learn (Southerners/Texans rural anyway) the moccasins are territorial & we learn to keep them away> in a lil drying up creek bed like this one, just stomp when you walk toward the water & that's enough to run the moccasins away. It's dif in reservoir or lake, but you can even smell the snake dens' tunnels in banks of ponds, etc. Here, Bob was at near end of a tributary rural creek, looks like maybe Llano River, (?) so you just walk with a stick going back/forth, but once in that shallow water, no snakes will bother one. Now, down further south, along Trinity River, dif story, had snakes leaping from trees as we fished, yes, back in the day when TX was lush w. flora/fauna b4 the invasions, just saying> Anyway, never be afraid of regular nature yes, be cautious & respectful & wise, but remember knowledge & spirit will get you through.

In the small area you made I think it'd be beneficial to lay a fine stitched net at the bottom of the creek so all you had to do was pull it up to harvest. I think I'll keep one in my survival bag just in case. I think it'd make it safer to harvest the fish and crawfish just in case there's broken glass or snakes lurking in there. Great video :)

Curiously, those armored catfish are in my humble opinion one of the tastiest river fish, at least around here. It is a pain in the ass to gut and clean them, but once you do it the meat is very good. I live in Brazil and those are somewhat common in small to medium sized rivers here. When i was a kid, we used lay baits at sunset and then come back at night with casting nets for the prize hahaha.
