PRIMITIVE SKILLS; Harvesting chicken eggs, sweet potatoes - life at the stone cabin
--------------
What kind of life do you want to live? In a crowded city, or a peaceful life in the countryside. As for me, if I could choose again, I would definitely still choose the life I have now. A life without hustle and bustle, noise and bustle. But it always gives me the feeling of being true to myself. Every day there is work to do and most of all, there are always people for me to love. Do you like a life like me? Please leave your feedback below in the comments section... Thank you so much!
Have fun watching the video!

live far from the city, in a peaceful place with natural sounds, grow vegetables, raise fish. That is the life many people dream of. Currently I am in the process of realizing such a rural life dream

Жить на природе это надо иметь очень большую наклонность к этому. Реальная жизнь на природе отличается от розовых картинок из телевизора. Это каждодневный, монотонный тяжелый труд. Не зря же во всëм мире сельское население переезжает в города.

Hi Duong, how are you? Have you thought about making your own compost and trying to attract black soldier flies? Their larvae are very rich in protein and could help your chickens and fish. Greetings from Catalonia.
@bearnaff9387
@bearnaff9387 2 ай бұрын
He's not doing large compost piles, but he does run a lot of plant material onto the surface of the little fenced areas he makes for his banana trees. The problem is that he doesn't have a lot of high-nutrient material to compost that would attract the flies. For the most part, all Duong really has to compost is plant material and most of that is harvested to use as fish or pig food. He will have access to pig and chicken manure, but he's not set up to collect them or compost them in a safe manner. What he needs is a trailer for a scooter and free pick of some local restaurant's food waste, if there's anything like that in the village.
@FranciscoRodriguez-uw1zs
@FranciscoRodriguez-uw1zs 2 ай бұрын
@@bearnaff9387 Hello, any piece of dry wood is carbon and the rest of the food, plant or animal, with chicken manure, nitrogen, you can start the compost, food scraps already attract insects. The village of Duong, if you've seen the videos where they sell the produce from the garden, has restaurants that can help and make the job a little easier, that's what I think.
@bearnaff9387
@bearnaff9387 2 ай бұрын
@@FranciscoRodriguez-uw1zs I think we agree. If Duong could easily transport the equivalent of the bedfull from one of those tiny Asian trucks every couple weeks, a compost pile would make a great "day job" for the chickens. The attracted insects would be good protein and the chickens would keep the material turned. After a couple month's development, he could turn it into soil where he was going to plant something. The problem is getting ahold of bulk food scarps and moving them to the farm.

Looks like your soil is getting more body, add more compost to make it less compact. Maybe use green manure over winter and turn it in to add more body, like buckwheat.

Duong, you should rebuild the chicken coop in the same style (stone and mortar) that you have done with your house and pig barn!! My suggestion would be to do so with a floor of replaceable bamboo on a platform of wood. Small gaps between the bamboo would allow for much of the chicken guano to fall through the cracks to the soil beneath and be collected later for fertilizer!

Good to see you doing well! The sweet potatoes did not produce as many as I thought they would even though the leaves were nice and green. You can try pinching off some new growth once a week once they regrow roots to encourage the tuber growth. The Chickens are very lovely! So beautiful, and tasty! Those cakes looked great, too!

Duong, you could build a new chicken house where your old garden is, and make a new garden over where the old pig house was. Your vegetables are growing poorly because the soil in that area is depleted of nutrients. If you grow your vegetables in a different area each year you will avoid that problem. If you also move the animals to the old gardens their faeces will help fertilise the soil.

Duong, if you build your chimney taller you should get less smoke in your house. The wind blowing across the top of the chimney will suck smoke up. Your chimney is lower than your roof so it does not get enough wind to suck the smoke out the house.

Duong, something your chickens might enjoy is making them a dust bath. In the wild, chickens will find soft dusty soil and dig a small hole and then rub the dust through their feathers to get rid of insects. I’m not sure if there is any good soil for them to do this because the area you are in is so wet.
