I just received my shirt from Gail and it's fantastic, even better than I had expected. The shirt fits great, is super warm and very comfortable. Gail was extremely easy to work with, and answered all of my questions. If you're thinking about having Gail make you a shirt, just do it and you'll be glad you did.

I see Gail and Roger every year at the indoor fur traders show in Danbury, WI. I have one of her trappers shirts, a pair of her mittens and a capote (pronounced ka poe). The capote is a wrap coat and held shut with a sash or belt and has a sewn on hood and tie that can be used as a scarf. I use a buffalo hide belt. Gail does exquisite work and when I go for walks in the dead of winter I will sweat wearing the capote in sub zero temperatures and a fair wind. Now Roger (Blackie as he's known around rendezvous) makes tons of primitive tools, candles, etc... If you have never been to a rendezvous, I strongly recommend that you go to at least one. Not only will learn a lot of history that has mostly been forgotten, but, you will meet some awesome folks, most of whom have high quality handmade goods to sell or barter. I look forward to seeing Gail and Roger every year and always buy something from them. And Gail has done custom work for people. So if like the shirt in this video but you want a pocket say like one on a hoodie, she'll do it for you. I went to my 1st rendezvous in 1987 when the traveling national rendezvous was at Fortes Folle Avoine in Danbury, WI and have gone back every year. You will have an awesome time and can learn skills from the old fur trade days.

Washing and shrinking is a good idea, I do this with sweaters. I get an XL (im only a 36 chest) and wash a bunch and shrink it up. It makes it thicker, tighter knit and more like felted. Also once elbows start to wear, the "felted" quality it gets, keeps the holes from unraveling beyond the actual wear spot. I like this lady already and havent bought one (yet).

Got my shirt today,I absolutely love it! The fit is perfect, not hard to put on or take off. I got the Grey color, like yours, and you talk about heavy duty, this shirt is heavy duty! It's between a shirt and a jacket.It also has two chest pockets that I wanted and a button with rawhide closure.Did I say I love it? Thanks to Gail, she is the best! Thank you for the best kept secret on the web.Everyone needs a least one of these, get one you will not be dissatisfied! Again thank you both.

Wow Larry, I don't think your going to have to worry about keeping warm out there. Those are genuinely nicely done items. I love it they have a purpose, they're heavy duty and handmade to perfection. I'm glad you're so happy with all your stuff from her.

Larry ... Watched several youtube videos about wool shirts, jackets and Anoraks, and came across yours. Really enjoyed watching it and decided to go w/ Gail on a shirt too. I told her I wanted a shirt similar to yours and very warm ... almost like a pullover jacket. The shirt she made me is green w/ a black strip (she said it was the thickest wool she had). Well, I also asked her for a Grey hat too. She decided to make mine Grey w/ Black Merino wool on the inside, to match the black strip in my shirt. The package came today and I'm so excited. This is quality work. I can't wait for the Winter to show up and knock on my door. I'm ready this year! I'll post again after I've worn it a few times, but thanks for all you do w/ the videos.

The shirt looks great and I bet the hats are warmer than usual, warmer than a watch cap since they are not only double layer but loose enough for some air space between the material and your head (not such a snug fit). I think you'll be very pleased with those caps. I wear wool socks year round here in Florida for sweat control and yes, back in the day, the soldiers guarding the seaside forts here in Florida wore wool uniforms,
@LarryRobertsbc10 жыл бұрын
***** Yes your right about the construction of the hats, that air space between the layers is awesome. Thanks for letting me know about the uniforms, I appreciate it.

Thanks for the video Larry. I know you said you don't care what you like in the forest, but that blanket made into a pullover is very nice looking. And that high collar is awesome. I have a wool jacket with one that size. No need for a hood. -Krik
