I like J’s answer a lot... but I think it’s also that white people have come to understand that black people have this sort of natural, innate sense of “cool”... are basically born with swag. And ever since the 90s and hip hop has grown into the mainstream, black culture and black people have become the sort of “curators of cool” and what’s cool in culture in general. Lol... Am I thinking too much into this rhetorical question? Or Am I right on the money? Lol... maybe a little of column A and a little of column B. Also, what J said makes sense too.

Jamel_AKA_Jamal Hey man. Listen to Primus - Mr Knowitall Primus fucking sucks 🔥🔥🔥
@skateordielaughing87534 жыл бұрын
The lyrics to almost every Primus song tell a story. This is one of the best. First a young boy and his mother head to America after his father died, he sees the sattue of liberty and believes he will have a better life in America. The second verse is Omg a refugee from Laos, he works in a factory where he solders electronics, "the smoke from the flux" fills his lungs, essentially giving him a slow death, he spends his spare time on San Pablo ave, and once a week "gets a woman for the night" basically he gets a hooker and he "writes home tales of prosperity" despite his job killing him and spending money on hookers he tells everyone back home how great American Life is. You pretty much got the third verse, bob is a veteran, homeless with a dog picking up cans for money. The one word you missed was he plays a little "guit" just short for guitar, but unlike the first two, if you listen, Les says he was "born" into American Life. Really powerful statement. Les had books and books of lyrics before he ever wrote the music, not only is he an amazing bass player, but he's a real poet, "my name is mud" is written in iambic pentameter, the same as the raven by Edgar Allen Poe.

You must listen to the version done by Vladimir Horowitz. Horowitz adds diabolical FIRE to the piece, which isn't just some klunky waltz...It was the rock n' roll of its day. It is one of the most technically difficult pieces to play and I'm telling you, IT RAGES! It also has a beautiful melodic part that could bring you to tears. Truly amazing!

Jamal, I recently started watching your videos. Your reactions are very genuine and spot on lol. I hope you could do a reaction of some Drive-By Truckers songs. Putting People on the Moon or Plastic Flowers on the Highway would be my first suggestions!

Love this song. Les is a legend!! You should checkout Twelve Foot Ninja - One Hand Killing. Is a rocking band with similar humorous side like Primus. Love your work!!

Watching him play this song is amazing. It's like he's playing 2 basses at the same time

Primus is almost like a kink. You feel bad for liking it, but you can't get enough of it. I swear, when I rediscovered Primus, I couldn't go more than 3 hours without hearing Primus, and I couldn't go more than 5 minutes without humming a primus song.
