Real spill straight from the horses mouth: “A buddy of mine was a vegetarian” says Claypool. “Whenever he would fall off the wagon, he would say, ‘Oh, I’m going to go shake hands with beef.’ So it sort of became this metaphor for deviating from the norm.”

Primus is so unique that back at the beginning of the MP3 the people who were in charge of the ID3 data tagging format, with categories for song name, artist, track number, genre, etc., decided that “Primus” would be one of the genre categories along with rock, country, pop, blues, and the rest. “Primus” was an official genre selection, because they didn’t fit into any other. Hehe

When you said “where the hell have I been” I feel so bad, glad people are giving these bands a try and enjoying them. Liking hip hop and all that is fine but I feel like most people have a very narrow understanding of how much variety rock has until they’ve heard some of it. Then they’re like damn I didn’t know music this complex or creative or weird or chill, even existed. Seeing people get into tool, primus, Pink Floyd, rush, zeppelin, and be like damn this shits good why have I never heard of these people, really shows how people need to be more open minded about rock music, it’s not all depressing, fast down strumming with screaming vocals, it can be funny, and chill, and deep, or just fun and interesting.

@nynetynyne heeee heeeee, I was learning drums at the time, we were all into Primus and Mr bungle, one afternoon during lunch hour at school we were allowed to play in the music room, but decided to lock ourselves in and just jam, so when lunch was over and school resumed we didn't give a flying fuck, we just turned everything up and continued, they were banging on the doors, but we thought, let's give our high school a free show, blazing loud, and they simply couldn't stop us, it was so beautiful and nasty and loud, we knew we would get in trouble eventually but pleaded, "ohh we didn't know, we were in the groove, in the moment, huh and the whole fucking school had to hear us trying to play Primus songs, I still laugh till this day....who? Us? We didn't know! Huh haaaaa
