Not a bad performance, but I prefer the original. Blame 21 years of growing up with the original, but I like the initial dignity juxtaposed with the high-paced hilarity of the rest of the song. This feels a bit too slow, with less of the original energy.

Robin William's (the original) has more energy and transcends the Genie character. On the other hand, James Monroe Iglehart's is much more Broadway-esque (which "duh") and has much glitz. The staging of this song is good but it didn't do justice to the source material. My opinion anyway.

ztslovebird The first time I heard it, I thought the same thing, but after listening to it about 3-4 times, it really grows on you. I grew up with the original as well, but this was very enjoyable. I would have enjoyed a longer and more pronounced Prince Ali, Fabulous He, Ali *Ababwa-**---* . Though I get where you're coming from. That was a good comment.

@@laetnerm1582 the costumes are awful since they they chose a bollywood style even though aladdin takes place in an arabic city, the songs are autotuned as hell and have barely any charm put into them compared to the original. the casting is awful with the exception of aladdin and Jasmine, and the musical orchestration is just the exact same but with a beat put over it. it all just feels like a high budget high school play. as opposed to the broadway version which not only changes the style of the music completely, but also adds new story arcs and does it's absolute best to create scenes chock full of charm, whereas the new movie is just the same one as the original, except so much less.

Am I the only one who thinks the jazzy style in this version doesn't feel right? It's still catchy, but won't citizen of ancient Agrabah get confused by the 1940s jazz preformed by a harold to a then modern Prince? It worked for the Friend Like Me number because only Aladdin was present in that scene. This is in front of an entire city and their sultan.
