Quite a bold anti- gun song from Prince and from Nona whose father was shot by her grandfather. Quite an innovative jazz funk song structure even now - the crowd didnt seem to know what to do with it/ the evident tension between Nona ( on the way out) and Prince( bringing Mayte on board). Nona was a mature independent woman with her own mind and ambitions, not as malleable as his employee Mayte 17 years his junior. I do believe he and Mayte genuinely loved each other for a few years which was an achievement given his emotional/ proffessional bandwidth issues.

Prince didn't want to be interviewed and there wasn't much to talk to Nona about beside her father Marvin. Nona seemed to have no issue talking about it. Sometimes its ridiculous when children or siblings or relatives of iconic musicians or actors try to distance themselves so much from their relatives to the point they act like they aren't related. I think Enrique Iglesias tried that early in his career and would avoid questions about his father Julio Iglesias.

Mayte just holding up signs like nothing's going on really? I know Prince was not a faithful/monogamous person BUT HOW he dropped Nona like that? He was working on her album and since I checked she still had concerts with him held on til December of 1995. Prince fans, especially his white fans (yes be mad at me, I said WHITE) tends to ignore her as one of his muses, like home girl wasn't inspiring any song. When it comes to his 90s, it's either Carmen Electra or Mayte, but they forgot (should I say "don't care?") about Robin Power, Troy Beyer and Nona. No, Nona was there and mr Rogers Nelson was the one who kept in contacting with her til the day he convinced her to get into a relationship with him. I hate how he painted her to his public but I guess it has to do with the fact that she wasn't into him at first and he wanted to make her look like she was the one desperate for him when it was otherwise, while Mayte was already in the picture just playing the good girl/lolitaish image. I'm so glad Prince didn't marry Nona, and after the horrible situation she won a lot, while karma came back for Prince's and Mayte's life, making sure their life as "soulmates" was a completely mistake. If Mayte ever enjoyed Nona's getting dumped, I bet she didn't feel the same about herself when she saw homegirl Mani coming in the picture.

There were just so many, weren't there?? And a lot of broken hearts as well. I think that the pressure of juggling them all was beginning to wear on him. There were times he was good at keeping them apart so that they would not interact with each other. But around this time they were sharing the stage. I'm sure the environment was getting a little tense. I have wondered why Prince proposed to Mayte over the phone while she was in Europe working for him. I think the pressure was pushing him into making a choice. Pick someone!! Having babies seemed to be a high priority for Prince even on the wedding night.
