In fairness, I imagine their mother only found out about it when we did. I can’t imagine what private conversations she had with him about it, but she was the one who pulled the royal plug on Andrew and divested him of everything but his title (something she would have needed an act of Parliament to do). And, given Charles’s feelings about his mother, I would be willing to bet that the harm taking this knowledge to her grave did her, is the one thing that Charles finds hardest to forgive. It is the sort of thing that can hasten the end of a vulnerable, elderly person, after all. I have no knowledge of her ever knowing anything about Andrew’s Epstein adventures. Do you?

The Royals have long been subscribed to this Faustian pact, particularly with the right wing media, and it frequently blows up in their faces, with them seeming to learn nothing. Like politicians, “briefing against,” their enemies, the press leaks stories about particular royals just to keep the kettle boiling and the soap drama drawing in viewers. In such a toxic environment, it’s hard to know what’s true. The fact that this has historically been the case with the royals is evidenced by the fact that the idea of a royal (Edward VII) being the true identity of Jack The Ripper caught fire so easily in fiction and popular speculation. It was just so easy to believe of any family with that much power, money and secrecy; all three of which are necessarily protected by the state! I doubt any of us really know the facts in this case. Nor are we likely to until they’re all long gone. That Edward is a nasty piece of work, I have no doubt. But the extent of his depravity is probably yet to be revealed. I feel like I will be the only person who isn’t going to be surprised.

Well said. The king taking back the gifts his mother bestowed on both Andrew and Harry then regifted Harry’s significantly more humble home to Andrew is distasteful. They have so many private properties that the King can choose from so this is just him being cheap. Andrew is no saint, but he is his brother and the Queen’s son. When King George and Dowager Queen Mary died, Anne was third in line and was given a lump sum inheritance as a two year old that was invested for her, which Andrew and Edward never got because they weren't born yet! Aunty Margaret also got a large living allowance as she was a second daughter much like Anne. Charles also got money from Uncle Dicky when he was murdered by the IRA along all those estates on his lands that weren't accounted for. Again his siblings had nothing like this. When Diana died, William got a smaller portion of his mother's inheritance, which was based on an alleged £20 million divorce settlement from Charles while Sarah got a paltry £2 million from the queen along with £2000 a month spousal support according to reports of that time! Do you see why Sarah wasn't wearing Dior nor where her kids? You see where this is going? When the Queen Mum died, she left all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, except Charles, equal portions of money to be given at age 35, I believe. Like Edward and Andrew, Louise and James got nothing as they weren't born yet! However, when the Queen and Philip died, they were given a portion, as were Archie and Lillibet! So, who has faired the best in all of this? Charles and especially Anne, who survived as "spare" her great grand mother, grandparents, aunty, and parents' deaths! Meanwhile, Charles demanded a downsize to save money while refusing to pay for Harry out of his Dutchy, unlike his mother, who knew how to be thrifty and still wore clothes from the 50s! Charles's downsizing was a horrible mistake because he cut off Edward's, Anne's, and Andrew's kids while alienating the Sussexes and the Snowdons whom had to sell off their mum's estate to pay taxes and who were demoted to the working upper classes. With Andrew's downfall, Charles tried to kick his brother to the curb, but most likely has read that after his dear boy and DIL Meghan, Andrew has a hit out in him! What would the people say if Andrew was the victim of vigilantee justice like Uncle Dicky? The people would then demanded that the Sussexes be protected despite Charles already casting them out! Meanwhile, Sophie's motor brigade unalived someone as she was representing the Crown, having been pressed into service based on the King's poor planning! The Edinburghs have done little because they most likely don't have the income to make a conciliatory offering toward the family because it would literally break them! Yet, the Queen did take responsibility for Andrew while the King doesn't see it as his duty to keep his siblings and son Harry afloat! No one talks of thus! Why? The various royals, especially the high ranking royals, have led to poverty, favoritism, income inequality, and the usury by the Sovereign among the various royals. Thus, subjecting certain royals to life threatening situations which they could prevent had they all had independent incomes based on their contributions and not be beholdened to the Sovereign's fickelness!

Frogmore Cottage was updated by Harry and Meghan at their expense and has been used for others the Duke of York's own daughter at one point, Andrew has been living separate from the family members for the past several years and that will be unlikely to change he could have done so much more with his life if he had been smarter and stayed away from certain people. I don't buy the idea the Andy has only his RN pension to live on. Both his mother and father had huge private fortunes which were quite distinct from the wealth that is attached to the Monarchy. Like anyone else his parents would have undoubtedly left pivate estates that were distrubuted after their deaths according to their wishes. As these wills are never made public we shall never know who the beneficiaries were and by how much but I think that we can assume that Andy as "his mother's favorite son" (so it is claimed) would not have been left out.

Frogmore and indeed any of the properties on the Windsor Estate are not the private property of the ‘Firm’ but a part of the Crown Estate so upkeep is paid for by taxpayers. Frogmore is not a mere Cottage but was a string of 4 or 5 semidetached cottages which at a cost of around £2 million where amalgamated into a quite large and now very modern home. The Royal Lodge is a mini palace of 30 bedrooms and it’s upkeep is very costly plus it requires a large police protection force. Harry & Meghan took the choice to leave the official Royal family and are no longer so called Senior Royals and so not entitled to occupy Frogmore. The ‘Firm’ as the Windsor private wealth and property portfolio is called is huge and worth hundreds of millions. Harry & Meghan live in the US full time now but if they want a pied-à-terre in the UK then one of the many private properties the family own can be assigned to them or Charles as CEO of that business could spare a few million and buy them a new home for the Sussex’s. As for Andrew he is still a senior royal but in disgrace and a quiet life at Frogmore is appropriate. It’s said by those in the know that Andrew really wanted the role that his father the Duke of Edinburgh held as the ‘Ranger of Windsor Great Park’ whereby he oversaw the business of the Estate and essentially was a farmer and forester managing a large workforce. It was a job that Philip loved. On Philip’s death Charles himself took the role and presumably now as King he still wants it although some say he plans to pass it to Prince Edward and not Andrew. Don’t see why Queen Camilla could not take it on if she is interested.

However that property never belongs to the person(s) occupying it nor even to the sitting monarch - it belongs to the nation. After Harry & Meghan married they lived in a very luxurious apartment (a whole wing) of Kensington Palace in central London. This palace is part of the Crown Estate and is set in a large non public park in the best part of London and is divided into several apartments some huge and some small. It’s full of members of the Royal family, many now retired. William & Kate also lived in Kensington Palace and when Harry and Meghan fell out with them and wanted to move away they wanted to move to a more secluded residence and then Queen Elizabeth decided to ‘gift’ Frogmore House to them as a private residence and at taxpayers cost and not private money it was joined into a single residence and modernised. There was a lot of unhappiness among taxpayer groups at the huge expense to create a luxurious hideaway for Harry & Meghan. Then later when they finally decided to give us their role as a Senior Royals (all senior royals are on a grant given to them each year by Parliament and can live rent free in properties in the portfolio of the Crown Estate plus they don’t pay the wages of staff) then they had to leave Frogmore. It was then that public anger at the ‘waste’ of just over £2 million pounds on Frogmore became very high and it was at this point that in order to diffuse the public anger the Royal family decided to pay back the cost of refurbishment to the taxpayer from their own private funds - they are collectively worth several billion. However at no point did Frogmore become a private residence it’s still a part of the Windsor Estate and Harry and Meghan did not spend their own money on it. They are well off and if they want a property in the UK they can buy it for themselves.

Whoever lives in any Crown estate property does so at the ‘gift’ of the sitting monarch who is the steward of the Crown estate. As to Andrew while the allegations are very strong and believable they are essentially a matter of “she said this and he said that” and unless there is other corroborating evidence those cases are very hard to prove in a criminal trial where the level of evidence needed to convict is very high (beyond all reasonable doubt) but easier to prove a civil trial.where the level of evidence needed is ‘on the balance of probabilities’. Andrew would have faced a civil trial in the US no matter who he is, but instead he and his lawyers settled with the complainant for an undisclosed sum of many millions which Charles paid from the private wealth of the family. There is ZERO proof of the contention that Camilla wants the Lodge and indeed why should she want it? Her and the King own Highgate House (a private property of the family) and they lived in it for years before he became King and then they had to move into Buckingham Palace when in London, and at Windsor they have the official Royal apartment in the main castle. If Charles passes on then then it’s pretty certain now Dowager Queen would live in Highgate and it would be the new monarch King William V who makes all decisions. Andrew simply does not want to move in my opinion because he feels aggrieved that he is treated as a criminal by the rest of the family- he is known to be arrogant and does not accept that did anything wrong when he slept with an underage girl. He was/is wrong and the King has decided it’s the end of any public role for Andrew.

AND, they had paid out of their pocket personalizations during renovation for items not covered by the grant. In addition, they reimbursed the sovereign grant for the costs of all the renovations after stepping back.
