This man's music was so dirty it took an act of Congress to try and stop it. And we loved every absolutely filthy word/riff😂😂 GenX gets it

It was from his movie Purple Rain. It was very controversial. The parental guidance/warning explicit language stickers on albums are mainly because of this specific song. There was a list of 20, but this song was at the top. The song he wrote, Sugar Walls, sung by Sheena Easton was also on the list. That song was more subtle so it was played on MTV and the radio, while Darling Nikki was not. Prior to that there was no warning. I had the cassette and I was 12. I didn’t really understand the song completely until it was all over the news and the lyrics were spoken and explained. Al Gore’s wife had overheard her 11 year old daughter listening to the song. She formed a group and they testified in front of Congress about the inappropriateness of many songs. Several music artists testified that they shouldn’t have to censor themselves.

You need to watch the movie. I love Prince. He was one of a kind.

Go back and play the audio version, this video mash-up with the movie scenes left out the legendary ending of the song.

Really worth watching the movie to see how his album creates a plot. I don't want to spoil things for you, but this is Prince "angry." He's putting down the girl he likes that doesn't like him (or does she???) Watch the movie to find out. Purple Rain.

Not your fault but the audio edit to this was horrible. Watch the purple rain movie and it puts the song in better context. Cool reaction. This song started the parental advisory stickers on albums, started by al gore s wife

Really annoying how prude you are about singing about sexuality. It's more controversial now than it is back then.
