Regarding the numbers, 60 minutes × 3 =180 = 1+8 = 9. 12 songs x 3 = 36 songs = 3 + 6 = 9. "Nine is the the triad of triads, the first odd square number... Nine is the celestial number of order, and many ancient traditions speak of nine worlds, spheres, or levels of reality." The frequency at which the earth vibrates, now known as the Schumann Resonance is 7.83 Hz at its peak. 7 + 8 + 3 = 18 = 9. All numbers reduce down to one number, except for master numbers such as 11, 22 and 33. In the case of the Emancipation album, the number nine is significant. Nine is a sacred number in Egypt. Mayte was pregnant that year before the release of the album. Nine is the number of months of the gestation period before we enter this world. It is the number of the one who accomplishes the divine will and the number of harmony.

Such an underrated album! Sooo many slept on gems. People get lost in the bulk, but if you are truly a Prince fan (like you say you are) it's like heaven having so many choices, moods and events that this album provides. I, personally put 'Emancipation' in my top 5 of Prince albums. I have so many favorites here... But I will say, when it's all said and done 'THE LOVE WE MAKE' just hits different now. It just radiates considering his passing. When it came out originally, it was ok. 20 years later this song hands down tears me apart!! Can't listen without crying... Those lyrics are comparable to 'The Cross'. 'Sometimesitsnowsinapril' does the same to me. The only love there is... is the love we make. So powerful 💜💜💜

Being a huge Prince fan, I would on new years eve play Prince music to bring in the new year. Something I did every year. That was just my thing. Have a drink, have a smoke, It was so much fun. This CD set got played a lot that year. I could feel the freedom in the songs. After he passed I just couldn't bring myself to do that again. But I think this year is gonna be different.

It's a lot of great songs from the Emancipation LP, "Right back here in my arm", "Mr. Happy" & "In this bed I scream are some of my favorites. I love the keyboard(synth) solo of the chorus in the song "In this bed I scream". The other songs "Joint 2 Joint", "the human body", "my computer" & "Da, Da , Da" are slammin' joints that I had enjoyed a lot when I first got my own copy of the 3 cd set in early 1998

I didn't finally come around to the set until 1999, when I was able to pick it up for $6.99 at FYE. Even if it's not my go-to album in his catalog, I never saw the need to pair down the tracklist. For me, it flows as-is. When I listen to it, I go the distance, depending on the disc I choose.

I think it's SO CRAZY when I heard "Emale" I was a fan of Meshell's work. I ALWAYS thought that track would fit her, via duet. My goodness, my intuition is on point. I never knew she WAS on the original version (before their relationship soured) . I purchased the 3 cassette tape-package, upon the release of "Emancipation". MAN....the fall and winter of 1996/1997. My junior year in college. I miss that era.😫 THEN, I saw the Emancipation concert, in Baltimore (July, 1997). I'm trifling🤣.....my friend and I stole closer seats from two lovers; while they were in the bathroom. We only got to dance to "Sleep Around" before the couple returned and ejected us, from their seats🤣. But, before we were sent packing (well.....not really. We finessed ourselves to the aisle of another good seating section).....I was like DAMN!! Prince is MAD SHORT.....WITH HEELS!! Like....WITH heels, he's shorter than your average dresser drawer. So, no wonder he always wore heels. Those heels led to his spine, hip and knee problems.....and eventual painkiller addiction. Women only try them on special occasions. I can't imagine dancing....doing splits.....wearing them 24 hours a day.....for nearly 30 years. Poor guy.

Emancipation is a great album that I still enjoy. Learning that the album was originally gonna be 52-songs long and then reading the track list, I actually wish THAT had come out instead of what became of the album. Songs like “Stone”, Journey 2 the Center...” “Funky Design” & “Goodbye” should’ve been heard by the masses in this form (not Crystal Ball for “Goodbye”). And it truly sucks that much more knowing that EMI folded when it did and that single handedly killed the promotion. Doesn’t kill that this was a great set of songs that worked for the time & still works to this day.

The 'Dead Like Elvis' sample comes from a song P did with a spoken word poet by the name of Ninety-9 called 'Stained Glass (aka Give God a Try)' around '93, and the title of 'Face Down' comes from a comment Morris Hayes apparently made about a particularly bad review they'd received about 'The Gold Experience', with Morris saying 'You know what, they can kiss my ass, matter'fact when we die they can bury us facedown and they can kiss our ass on the way out'. This is also the song that made P question his profanity in performances, as Larry Graham would always go backstage to avoid hearing it. Thanks for the videos! ☮

Hard to know what to say about this album. When I first heard it I was disappointed. I felt like it marked a conscious turn away from the more hard edged sound he had employed on Gold Experience and Chaos and Disorder, and I was hoping for more of that. That being said, Emancipation continues to reveal itself to me in unexpected ways after all these years. I still don't feel as though I really know it from start to finish. Face Down, Joint 2 Joint, The Love We Make. Hard to pick just one favorite from a 36 song album.
@ericcampbell63703 жыл бұрын
It's amazing to think that Prince had actually considered using a producer other than himself and I'm glad that he didn't. I personally think that Emancipation would have been more consistent as a double rather than triple album, possibly holding a few of the songs for New Power Soul where they would have fit perfectly. My favorite tracks here are The Holy River, Curious Child, Let's Have a Baby, New World, The Human Body, Slave and Face Down.

Surprised you didn’t mention Kate Bush. Also, I was at that Roseland Ballroom show in NYC. Met Kirk in the crowd while we were waiting for the show to start. Also saw Montel Williams hanging out. Also, that Chris Rock interview shows footage from that Roseland show. And maybe it was conducted there? Not sure about that though.

Good job as always!🙂For me though,there are enough songs that I ignore that I see it as a double album.(Most of the skipped songs are on disc 3.)That may have led to more sales but who knows?🤷♂️However,w/ the bootleg of The Dawn out there for some,maybe more of those songs could have been switched w/ the ones I'm not crazy about?Something like Mad as opposed to Da,da,da?

I was drifting away from Prince around this time, and the fact that it was 3 hrs long with 36 songs meant that my short attention span didn't allow me to spend a lot of time with it. I don't think I've heard the entire album more than three times. I recall it did sound kinda unvaried which was not the norm for a Prince album. I'll have to stream it again.

This is indirectly related to the album. I create music as well, and I have a very special relationship with numbers, letters and other characters. I have a form of synesthesia called Personification Synesthesia. For example, I don’t just see numbers when I see them, I also see what I can only call “personas” in them. To me, Each single digit (0-9) has a gender, a personality and relationships to the other digits (0 is nonbinary, 1-5 are somehow guys, 6-9 are somehow girls, 5 is a self-righteous jockey, 6 is a feminist who wants to teach 5 a lesson, and 7 is her sidekick and a bookworm with the cutest glasses, I kid you not!) And when you combine digits to make larger numbers, they start to really react with each other, creating situations or images (326 invokes Kovu from The Lion King 2, multiple 4’s are like a deeply militaristic army, 5 plus a 9 equals a tragic death for some odd reason!) Anyway, I see it as a gift and a curse, but either way, I try to channel that knowledge into my music anywhere numbers are involved. The number of tracks is never unintentional for me. Also, I try to make the runtimes of my songs (and by extension, my albums) synesthetically match the vibe of the instrumental and/or lyrics. I have to edit and sequence each of my songs and albums in order to create them exactly how I see fit according to my relationship with numbers. My strongest musical collaborator has once said that I make albums “backwards” and I just work in reverse from there, and I kinda see what he means! @jordanC I didn’t know anyone else did anything like this with their music until I discovered the existence of Prince’s Emancipation, with its triple-disc set of 60-minute albums. This is yet another of many things the artist and I bond over and have in common. 😄❤️❤️❤️ I’m actually afraid to listen to the album because I’ve never heard anyone do that in their work besides me! Anyways, I researched this all again tonight, and I have never shared this particular connection with anyone. Hope somebody gets something out of it! 😆😄😅😊❤️

A tie between 'White Mansion' and 'Joint 2 Joint' for best song. For myself, this was the era I became a hardcore Prince fan and have the most nostalgia for. It's interesting that some of the tracks from Prince's 90s releases tell a love story of sorts: -The Morning Papers (The courtship) -TMBGITW (in love) -Disc 2 of Emancipation (the wedding) -The One/Man of War/Silly Game/Eye Love U But... (breakup)
