My husband was invited to Paisley Park in the 90’s, a friend of his was recording in his studio and he ran into Prince in the hallway. We would go to his night club Glam Slam he owned in Minneapolis in the early 90’s. A friend paid a membership fee so we would could use the pass, you could hang out with Prince on a private floor overlooking the dance floor. He would be in the corner by himself observing, he gave the vibe he wanted to be alone. He would crash the dance floor in the downtown Mpls bars, he would walk through the middle of the dance floor with his body guards. Fun memories, he loved Mpls!

My wife and I were invited two or three different times. The invites were always last minute as our friend who worked with Prince didn't even know until last minute. It was always like 11pm on a Wednesday night. (It didn't necessarily mean prince was going to perform. It could be a band he wanted to watch) I passed as I had to work early the few times we were invited. I never imagined we wouldn't get another chance with him passing. Over the past 3 decades, many details get blurred or forgotten. I remember the music, MTV ruled the pop culture, lots of great movies--but, the other areas of the 80s I can barely recall, if at all. Prince, Michael Jackson, and Madonna ruled the dance floors/music scene. Today, the 80s seem as if they occurred a century ago, not the 40 yrs!

I feel so lucky that I got to visit in 2004 as part of the NPG Music Club weekend. Private tour (not as much access as now) but special concerts by Prince on the big stage, with Maceo, Larry Graham and Candy Dulfer. And Prince allowed a bunch of us to get on stage and dance. Priceless.

I always thought that too as far as seeing his influences of James Brown and Jimi Hendrix with his style and mannerisms. But a very underrated guitar player though. Check out his solo in while my guitar gently weeps that he did with the late great Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. Its unbelievable how great it is.

He was a really neat dude. I'm from the Twin Cities, and my summer job during college was doing QA at a local food plant. We had a bottling department that normally made industrial quantities of salsas (many styles of our own and co-manufactured for others), sweet & sour sauce for major chains, BBQ sauce for private label and retail, and similar. One of the people who we did a few R&D runs for once in the early 90s... was Prince. His people got in contact with us, and we worked out the details - a few of his people were over during the production test runs, and I was able to take home a case of each of the flavors made... there was a marinara type sauce, an alfredo one, and several others I forget the details of atm. Oddly enough, I ended up talking to his personal chef several times (a guy named "Pony Tail"), and we got to chat about the Purple One himself. He described Prince as basically being really fun to be around, but who had astonishingly severe ADD or similar... exactly why people thought he was odd, was simply his own brain wiring. He slept at odd times and worked days on end on occasion, following the creative bug. We didn't end up going to retail on those products, as we would have needed to get a huge heat exchanger in order to cold-pack the alfredo variety... and if we couldn't do them all, he didn't want to do any. He dabbled in lots of things along those lines.

He was also a man who helped people in need. That empathy side and selflessness was never highlighted. His spiritual side also was very powerful. if you listen to and hear his music it's truly SOUL MUSIC. Just writing this to honor him and perhaps some younger generation can feel his depth and know of his greatness of heart. He was very discreet about his humanitarian side. True greatness.
