+David Brown I'm 53 now,as a 14 year old in '77,I discovered the Sex Pistols,by '78 I had discovered Reggae,Firstly Culture,Bob Marley,these led me to Prince Fari, King Tubby,Lee Perry-Dub in general,"singers and players",and one of my all time favourite Reggae songs,"move out Babylon" by King Blacka. I've still got the early punk,but I have loads more Reggae/Dub, I have a preference for Roots,through out the '70s,but by the '80s Reggae had changed and I couldn't change with it,though some of the modern Dub is good. The words of Bob Marley,Culture and Prince Fari resonate with me,even more nowadays due to my Spiritual beliefs. ONELOVE

I agree. I couldn't get with the dancehall ting, but the rest of it :)
@scotchoats8 жыл бұрын
+strumbolli same not my cup of tea, but went out to JA years later in the height of the dancehall and had a visit to King Jammy's v Stonelove sound system at half way tree and the atmosphere was magically electric , I'm sure the local tobacco helped though :))
@strumbolli8 жыл бұрын
+David Brown I lived in South London in 89/90 dancehall was all you heard pon the radio, I liked it but lacked the spiritual/mystic content of the late 70's heavy weights Gibbs/Perry/Tubby etc. Have to say though to attend a sound system dance in JA would be memorable. For 3 chord thrash music Punk opened up whole new diverse genres of music to enjoy from dub to krautrock, ska to 60's garage to glam and i soaked all of them up.

Thanks. I saw Fari live and have always wondered who the guy on melodica was. Obviously reminded me of Augustus Pablo. He showed up in a number of reggae bands playing London in the late 70s.

@@dia.6213 I got there a bit early and went over to the bar only to stand next to and chat with the man himself. He was drinking Baby Cham. It got quite crowded before he came on stage. Amazing set. Some white Rasta kid was proclaiming as a prophet. I expressed my doubts and he threatened to stab me. Other than that a very memorable evening.
