For those asking about the plot, Henry IV is about Jeremy Irons's character as king and Tom as his son, who is irresponsible and parties all the time with inappropriate people. Jeremy is worried because England has a very tense relationship with France, and he's afraid that when Tom becomes king, he will lose the kingdom to the French. Henry V shows what actually happens when Tom's character takes over and has to lead a very nasty war with France.

Another thing, I actually got to show this clip to my English IV class on the day after finals with my teacher's permission to do so. One of the classmates recognized Tom before the video played. Right when Hal got slapped, a few classmates winced a bit. Nonetheless, they liked it and my teacher stated that a little culture before Christmas never hurts. Happiest moment of my life.

also, if anyone wants to understand Shakespeare, there is a website called "never fear Shakespeare" where you can read Shakespeare's lines with the modern translation next to it. Being hearing impaired I sincerely hope this play and of Henry V, will be captioned so that I can fully understand the lines.

They do have a good Hotspur! Rory Kinnear, who was supposed to be a fabulous Hamlet last season at the National. I've seen him in "The Revenger's Tragedy" and he was riveting- I have high hopes. :) I really, REALLY wish we'd gotten to Hal's "Do not think so"- it's such a pivotal scene, and this clip only shows the ramping up to the climax. CANNOT. WAIT.

The King in a fit of ramling Rage strikes the face of the Prince, but notice Prince Hal, calm quiet, and what do we see in his eyes, Pity, Pity and darkness, "you may strike me where I stand, but you know not what you do." That slap in the face looked painfull, acting as it was Tom looked stunned after that.
