My perception of the Royal family in the past was that the majority of the male members were not what one would want your daughter to be married to. The late 20th century heralded a change and a gradual dilution of the ‘Royal Genes’ 👏👏 Created by those who chose to marry outside of the ‘aristocracy’, the Sloan ranger totties, and the comedic ‘half pint and hacking jacket’ brigade. Edward’s successful marriage to the lovely Sophie, Mike Tindal’s successful union with Zara Phillips, Princess Anne’s daughter, Anne’s own second marriage to Timothy Lawrence, a retired naval officer and the most heartwarming royal marriage for myself, has to be William and Catherine. She and he have rekindled my dwindling regard for the Royal family. Whilst I held our late Queen in high regard, I do feel that a more understanding, compassionate approach to her children could have forestalled many of the problems Royal Protocol has caused them and others. She should have allowed her sister to marry Townsend. It was cruel and archaic but in Queen Elizabeth’s eyes it was Royal protocol, which had to be followed. Together with many of King Charles’s subjects, I feel he could have done more to prevent or at least censure his wayward son, instead of adopting the usual head in the sand ‘til it goes away’ attitude. If he saw Camilla as his one and only love, then at the age of 30 he should have refused to marry anyone else, certainly not a naive 19year old who had already suffered the anguish of her own parents broken marriage. When one holds such an important role in a country, there comes a time for forthright decisions, which are sound, fair and necessary. That time is now.
