This is how insightful Prince was. On the interview he did at Paisley Park with Mel B. He stated that he could not stay with a record company. The simple reason he gave was his musical ability was a gift from God. God knew he was capable of doing all that he did. Prince said I can't hold back this gift. He couldn't and would not. Being with a record company we wouldn't be hearing all of this great music from him.

Who controlled the billboards charts back in the day and even now cuz even though I missed it, I heard that the Lovesexy Tour was one of the Biggest selling concerts of 88/89 even though I had my Mom buy me the Lovesexy album on cassette tape back in the day and it wasn't a big seller like it should have been.

It was actually quite the opposite. The Lovesexy Tour didn't make much money at all because of low ticket sales, due in part to the Lovesexy album being, at that point in time, his lowest selling album since Controversy in 1981.The nude album cover didn't help matters, nor did the fact that besides Alphabet Street, there were no other hit singles from the album. He ended up having to tour Japan in early 1989 with the Lovesexy Tour set design drastically scaled back in order to recoup the the money he lost on the tour in 1988.
