He has always been a prince as his father is a son of the monarch, the late Queen Elisabeth. According to British hereditary law the the grandchildren of a monarch’s sons are all princes or princesses. James parents just refused to use this title. Princess Anne’s children do not have the title of prince or princess because their mother is not of the male line. However, Princess Anne additionally refused any titles for her kids.

Clearly you’re uneducated. What decides royal titles are letters patent, and currently Louise and James fall under the category of male line grandchildren of a monarch in the 1917 letters patent. The monarch they descend from does not have to be currently living for them to enjoy their titles. Under this letters patent they are legally a prince and princess and hold HRH status; Sophie even confirmed this in a 2020 interview. Just because they don’t use thier princely titles, does not mean they aren’t 🙄

technically speaking- both James and Louise should be HRHs as the children of a Royal Duke- like their cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York. They should be HRH Princess Louise of Edinburgh and HRH Prince James of Edinburgh, Earl of Wessex. When Edward and Sophie were elevated, the kids should have been as well.

I love all this garbage! 😂 Under the 1917 letters patent, James is already legally a prince and a HRH as the legitimate child of a son of a sovereign. His parents wanted him and his sister out of the spotlight and were raised to have normal jobs one day and so they didn’t use their royal titles. Sophie stated in a 2020 interview that when the kids turn 18 it’s their decision whether or not to use their titles, which she thought they wouldn’t. Louise being 20 already decides to remain as “The Lady Louise”. James will have to wait until next year when he turns 18 to decide. For now he is still “James, Earl of Wessex”.

Both James and Louise were in the photo with the Queen and her great grandchildren. I believe Lena Tindall was holding the Queen’s purse. There is a later picture of the great grandchildren which includes Louis and also James and Louise. James joined the 7 other grandchildren as guardians of the Queen’s coffin and has walked in various processions. He is a fine young man who is completing the final years of secondary school. Lady Louise is in University so neither has the time for royal duties but both will take the appropriate place within the family when they complete their education.
