I wonder which training techniques are best suited to macaques? I used to teach horseback riding for a living and train horses, in fact my current - and only - horse had the barest of basics taught to her, and we used that blank slate to be consistent, train with positive reinforcement and when a horse refuses to complete the task the way it’s shown, we use our voices and go back and repeat the action until they understand and respond. The only thing I say once I start repeating the behaviour is the command/vocal cue representing that task. When they obey, happy voice, big scratch and pat and softening the body language. Patience, consistency and repetition. Same with dogs and even a few parrots. So I’m asking because I saw him raise a hand to the female and she immediately cowered. Is physical dominance the way for these guys to respect the alpha? I’m genuinely curious

Maybe he rescued them? And he looks after them well. Better than monkeys that are used to make money then dumped in cold, filthy cages at night! He's also responsible, keeping them with collars and leads on, no different to pet dogs.

He did. He’s had them over 10 yrs now. Each were abandoned. Shaki in a hotel where two travelers bought her on street then abandoned her in their hotel room. A friend of Jamils worked at the hotel and called him because he ran a rescue for cats, dogs and other local animals. JA,is received special permission from Malaysian Forestry Dept to keep JK and Shaki. Otherwise it is illegal in Malaysia. The idea was never that he keep them forever. But the illegal trade just got worse and worse. Fewer and fewer rescue groups. Now it would be impossible to send them back to the wild. Yet he’s committed his entire life to them. He was a PA for a well known politician there until he quit to rescue full time. It’s a shame people are so nasty to him.

Very different from keeping cat's and dog's. These are Monkeys their activities are running up and down trees, swinging from place to place. No animal should be tied down, A dog is kept on a lead for it's own safety, but when bought home the lead comes off..never should they be kept in chains. It's a pity the government cannot help him build a massive enclosure, as he's prepared to look after the georgious creatures. It will keep them safe out of disgusting people that kill and hunt these beauty's . I don't agree( my opinion) for animal's to be hunted and killed, so if they could be kept safely out of harms way, but naturally. This will help the Monkey population, and more people will come to respect what's being done.
