Nadeem Hamed was one of the toughest fighters in the lower weight classes in the 90s. I like his style because it was unorthodox but he got away with it because he was skilled. He countered well, had power in both hands and the way he flailed when he was getting hit with power took the sting off of a lot of punches he took. The only way to hurt him was to catch him off balance, but you had to be precise cause he'd come out with that uppercut out of nowhere if you weren't paying attention. He wa

Yeah! And thank you very much! The Prince got tremendous power, very strong legs, and very ackward style. Most of his opponents did not know how to react against such a new style for them. He earned his money, because he re-written boxing in a new different way. Some extreme, and love him or not, it was something to see. :)

I saw this fight live back in the day.. If I remember right, he said something like, "You're the best fighter I ever faced and I know I'm the best you ever faced." Not word for word, I'm sure, but I remember something very much like that, that Naseem walked away w/a lot of respect for Kelley, even though he didn't show it w/his grandstanding at the beginning.

Naseem's record speaks for itself. Sure he should have rematched Barrera. However, he was a class fighter with a different style but it worked and he defended his titles with success during his career. You cant take that away from and he should be respected for that.

Well, he got hit a lot by Kelley. Kelley tryed a little too much in the fourth round, but that was Kelley and what he believed at that time, that he could get rid of Hamed. However, he got caught. It's mainly because of the great concentration and determination (and chin) of the Prince that it happened though. Anyway, that was the hell of a fight. I loved it and still love it! :)

@oldfilikin - yep agreed. he was in fantastic shape at his peak and a fantastic showman. he knew his cockiness would wind some people up but did not give a damn. it was all about the show and he had amazing talent: 37 fights and 32 KOs with only one loss I believe. I do miss his theatrics and he gave boxing an incredible buzz - unlike the mundane, bring rubbish we have to put up with today.

Brakie78, mate, you are spot on. Nas proved himself to be a good fighter, not a great one. And its also fairly clear that once Barrera dealt with him he didnt have the courage or believe to quickly get back in the ring and resume his career against top quality opponents and prove his worth. No shame in getting beaten by Barrera, but forfeited a lot of his credit by being too pyschologically weak to continue his career properly after that bout.

this is one of my favorite fights of all time. i remember watching this on sky like it was yesterday. prince was the man. i read a comment saying that pacman vs prince would of been great. thats so true but naz was a better boxer then pac and had just as much power. i would like to of seen a floyd naz fight more. they were the same weight. naz had more power but floyd had better boxing skills and liked to go for knockouts more back in 2000 2001. so that would of been epic

@invalensname I agree with most of what you said(in fact I said the similar things in a previous comment) with the exception of no one achieving what he did in the same amount of time. Many of the greats accomplished similar things by that point in their careers, and against stiffer competition. Like you said, the thing that keeps Hamed from being "one of the greats" is he didn't avenge the loss and keep going. I totally agree that to use a quote, "there's no room in boxing for perfection."

@afgmuscl314 жыл бұрын
@lolointro1 No it was a complete 50/50 split that Klit offered. The reason the fight didn't happen was because Haye didn't want Wlad to have another fight before they fought.
@HalDanGhor15 жыл бұрын
@noobkamal Thank you dude! However, about the decrease of passion for Nazeem about boxing, I really think that it's Barrera who destroyed his ambitions. Hamed, imho, truly believed he could not lose in the ring. Losing changed his vision of the life I think. He even had to stop trying to promote Allah the way he did before that loss. He tried his best against Barrera, but he would be caught so often and been staggered a couple of times, and badly. He had a great chin and great determination. :)

@Gratztheking....They were obviously delighted that Naz won on his U.S debut. Theyd never saw Naz caught so much, but were delighted that he weathered being knocked down by Kelley a couple of times to come back up and win as early as the 4th. The pressure was on him beforehand to deliver and it was such an exciting bout that they were favourable towards him. Shame he couldn't repeat that kinda excitement in his future U.S fights, he coulda been wonderful potentially.
@titaniumpecker13 жыл бұрын
Kevin Kelley was one of the few good fighters that Hamed would get in the ring with. He ducked Erik Morales because he knew that Morales would have knocked him out. The only reason Hamed fought Marco Antonio Barrera was that he thought Barrera was a shot fighter after Barrera lost twice to Junior Jones. Fortunately for Barrera, Hamed gave him the fight and we all know how that turned out.

Naseem was very fortunate to win this one. Kelley really outfought him, but spent himself needlessly and did not execute an intelligent fight. He totally ignored what his corner kept telling him. If he had listened, this was his to win (handily).

Take a look around 2:18 into the video (1:40 left in the round), they're in a clinch, Nas's head changes place abruptly with Kevin's just as the Ref walks between us and the camera, when he passes Kevin appears to halfway faltering before straightening up. I think Kelley was butted, and because he was dazed, Nas was able to deck him just a few seconds later with a punch that didn't even land cleanly, even though up until 1:40 Nas hit him with nothing significant in that round.
