Watching you experience Prince with so much joy really made me happy and brought me back to all those times I first heard one of his songs. I gave you lots of recommendations in comments for your Let’s Go Crazy reaction so I’ll just say that he did have a costume change before coming out to perform this song. He also loved listening to Wendy play those intro chords on guitar and often just left her out there playing the intro over and over because he loved it so much. If you watch the First Avenue version, she’s looking around wondering when he was going to come out. Interestingly, that was her first live performance with him and the first time they played Purple Rain (as others have mentioned that’s the performance that was used for the album). I love watching musicians react to Prince because you notice so much that others might not. I loved that you mentioned how clean his tone is and how hard it would be to play as you’re running up and down stairs in the dark. Also, one of the things I love most about Prince is that he is without a genre. So, when you mentioned punk, I immediately thought that you need to listen to some of his earlier music - especially from the Dirty Mind or Controversy albums. At that time, he was incorporating a lot of nu wave and punk into funk and R&B. The result is magical. Please keep going down the Prince rabbit hole. I am truly loving your enthusiasm as you experience all of it 💜💜💜

JJ, Thank you for the incredible comment, I am VERY excited to delve into the live show video, as for Wendy playing....it is somewhat hypnotic so I can totally understand why he'd let her just play. Prince always remained a humble down to earth person. He could have lived anywhere, but he chose to stay in his hometown of Minneapolis Minnesota where he opened up Paisley Park Studios. Prince is one of those rare artists where most of the live stuff is even better than the album version, so I'd definitely keep watching the live stuff. Although there are a few songs I'd suggest listening to the album version of that I consider can't miss songs - The Beautiful Ones and Computer Blue (both from the Purple Rain soundtrack) as well as Adore from Sign O' The Times (My all-time favourite Prince song). For live stuff there's just so many amazing choices. Some of my favourites are: Play that Funky Music - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn_VcnmYaK5loNU The Question of U - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqfcgHyDrr5kaq8 Just My Imagination - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIGmk5iVp6uqmZo (No video but the best guitar solo in music history imo) Of course the Superbowl and Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame performances belong on the list and will no doubt be endlessly suggested. Sadly the Montreux shows were all removed from KZbin not long ago, but those were some of his best performances so if you can find them somewhere I'd definitely recommend watching them, even if it's just in your free time.

Prince was punk in a way. He completely did the opposite of what his label wanted him to. 1980’s Dirty Mind was almost banned and it divided people. He persevered and created his own image and sound. He fought to own his name and masters. He is also the reason parental advisory explicit content stickers wound up on album covers.

It's a great concert to watch, but make sure it's the whole concert. One of the top results has most of Purple Rain itself cut out for some reason. The show you're referring to is actually the show that the last 3 songs on the Purple Rain soundtrack were recorded LIVE at. That's right, a lot of people don't know that the song Purple Rain was actually recorded live at First Avenue and not in a studio. A testament to Prince's ability to sound better live than most musicians do in a studio.@@ExploringTheSmoke

I have loved him since I was 14/15 years old back in 78/79 and I will never stop loving him either. Um got a question... iis it only those who pay that can give requests or what? I'll give you a few either way... Listen to the song he did back in the 90s called The Ride... use the video with him wearing black and white.... Then there's the stuff he did at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2013. He did 3 days there the 3rd day is the rock and roll day. There are 3 of the songs he did in that set that I especially love, Shes Always In My Hair, The Love We Make and The Break Down.... he gets very emotional with the last 2. You might have to dig for the Montreux videos, you might have to watch the whole concert cause they seem to have taken them down. If you just want to watch it elsewhere its on other sites other then on u tube there you'll find it. Then there's the unbelievable guitar playing he did with both on stage, when they honored George Harrison at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame back in 2004, and on stage with the song Question Of You (he was wearing a light colored shirt) its 11 minutes long that one. And if you really want to flip watch him sing and play in the rain at the Super bowl half time in 2007. Any and ALL of Princes stuff you will never be sorry you watched he was phenomenal at everything he ever laid his hands on and nobody but nobody did it better. Peace.
