Prince crying while he's singing is so iconic. He knew then that it was his life altering moment. I went to see Purple Rain with my Mom when I was 16. During this scene everyone in the theater was waving their hands in the air, including my Mom. I looked over at her and her eyes were welled with tears. Like Prince, she's gone now too, so it's a VERY special memory for me. 💜

My brother, who passed away in 2013 at the age of 16, once told us how underrated Prince was and that Purple Rain was such a masterpiece. So we played it at his funeral and whenever I hear this song, I'm taken back to this time right after we lost him. It's so incredibly sad to me and even now that I'm 19 and it's been so many years, this song makes me (and my mom) cry as soon as we hear the first few seconds of it.

This was my older brothers favourite song, was 13 at the time. At his funeral on a day it wasn't meant to rain, we let his favourite colour (purple) of Ballons into the air played this song and it rained my brother still with me. I was driving home from work today and this song came on as I was listening to Pandora. I got the biggest lump in my throat knowing that he is gone. Prince gave us so many timeless classics. But if this song was the only thing he gave us, what a contribution this alone is. Probably the best rock ballad ever written. I saw him sing this in San Diego and I don't know how he did it but he made it look like it was raining purple on stage. I was in awe. May he rest in peace.
