This was pretty early in Prince’s career....we had no idea what was about to be unleashed. A whirlwind of talent packed into the man walking by wearing that purple coat. He was so young but even at this point he had written & produced hundreds and hundreds of excellent songs and was about to embark on his first huge tour of the US and Europe. He looked so calm and cool but was probably a little nervous; he wasn’t yet used to so much attention. The film was a gigantic hit showcasing his unbelievable talents. Must’ve been a fun party that night!

Ok...now. I like this film a lot. Still do. Very good performances. Excellent guitar playing/singing. Continuing on: guitar still isn't plugged in, even for show. Which is very odd. They don't show his right hand, which musicians REALLY care about, namely guitarists. They'll pay extra for "keyboard view" at piano concerts. Reality in movie recording is that they put the sound in later. See Meryl Streep in Postcards from the Edge. So the real sound is kind of irrelevant. Just noticed the drummer's barely touching the drums...and NO drummer in ANY genre can resist a big, cymbal-flailing, pounding outro...those suckers MOVE, Jack. It does match the soundtrack, though...The Gene Krupa Story is a fun, interesting movie about Gene Krupa played by Sal Mineo. Who of course, had to actually play drums. The audio is Gene himself and 90% of it matches what you see with what you hear in the film. It's a valiant effort. Just must have been hard to play so well when you can't HEAR any of it...
