There is a legend that if a Guru teaches the Raga Varali to a disciple, they would have a fight and break up. Because of this, many Gurus refrain from teaching Varali to their students, because of which, many beautiful songs in this Raga have become extinct.
Prince Rama Varma bravely went ahead and painted an exquisite picture of the Raga, with music students at the Saamagaana Sangeetha Sabha, Bangalore, in September 2017.
The refinement and clarity with which Varmaji dissects and explains even the most subtle oscillations or Gamakams typical to this Raga, reveal Varmaji's deep insight into Carnatic Music in it's purest form, imbibed largely from his Legendary Veena Gurus, Trivandrum R.Venkataraman and Prof.K.S.Narayanaswamy.
