For You, The With the very first track on his very first album he tells the world what they they are in for. What a great start to a musical career and musical journey.

At the time, it was unheard of for any artist to have the creative control that was given to Prince,(an unknown) by WB for his very 1st album. You are in good hands with Samantha, she knows her Prince stuff! Enjoy your purple journey!

Great reaction Luke. This is how you make an entrance! Brilliant album! It blows my mind that he wrote most of this in 1976, when he was just 18 years old. That opener is phenomenal, the layered vocals are just beautiful and the message he is getting across is he is going to share his life with us! And he sure did. All the instrumentation, all the vocals, arranged, written and produced by him as a teenager. The final track "I'm Yours" is actually scary! Listen to the drum fills, the bass, the guitar solos .... just incredible! His vocals are quite low in the mix but I think that was intentional to highlight his musicianship. Amazing album.

I had that album!!! I was in middle school & we all knew he was special from the very beginning. He wrote everything, played every instrument on the album & produced the entire thing (was the youngest producer at that record company at the time). Glad you're checking this out!

Everything you hear is all him. Every note. And he was only 19 when he made this album

Nice reaction. Youll enjoy the prince journey. Before For You, he was in a band called 94east. They were teenagers. U can find their stuff on you tube. Mostly prince on bass, some lead vocals

Yes, prince went in and played every instrument, he only got a band together when he went on tour for it but in studio it was all him

Everything on this first album was done by Prince including producing ! EVERYTHING !! Prince was 20. The Funkiness is of the times - as you'll see the changes from this journey. Enjoy !

Around this time Michael Jackson walked into Right On Magazine to visit editor Cynthia Horner. The Magazine was actually a vehicle used to push the Jackson 5 as America's first black teen idols in the 70's, Cynthia and MJ were friendly. Anyway, he saw Prince's WB Promotional materials sitting on her desk, stared at it and asked "who is he?". This was a period (70's) when black artists weren't being allowed the autonomy that Prince was granted as a teenager. The Jackson's were just being allowed to write a few songs while being produced by Gamble and Huff. Michael didn't have that kind of autonomy until Dangerous in 1991. Quincy Jones (Michael) used to take shots at Prince for having no collaborators to bounce off of, Michael on the other hand wanted to try it without Quincy😅

Wow.. that's super interesting and a great comparison with Michael where the two were constantly compared I imagine... just another example of what an accomplishment Prince had made at that age! Thanks for sharing with me! 💜

He didn’t have it In 1991. Teddy Riley ran that album

Forgot to mention, if u watch "once upon a time in Minneapolis" on you tube, that will give a good history of prince from birth to about 1992, has him and band member talking about what was going on in each era, from him touring w Rick James, him almost quitting the business after playing for the rolling stones, him not doing "we are the world" and the creative process behind the music. Each episode is about 20min long, if u see one that s 1hr, that'll be two or three episodes edited together
