Its impossible but, Anotherloveholeinyohead is one that always turns me on and I always go back to it. Anna Stesia's guitar is amazing. P. Control is insane. When Doves Cry is SO ELECTRIFYING IT from Sign o the Times, is really so dirty and underrated. Temptation, The Question of U, Nothing Compares, I Wish U Heaven, Bambi, Eye Hate U, Lady Cab Driver, Gigolos Get Lonely Too, Sexy Dancer...so many great songs. Then, there're many jazzy tracks I love from The Rainbow Children. Great video Joe. Yes. Prince is the GOAT, along with Paul McCartney and David Bowie in my humble opinion. 🎉

Thanks for taking the time to make this specifically and to you and Jason for tackling the massive Prince discography in general. As I said on the Patreon, I think The Beautiful Ones is overlooked, I'm glad it ranked so high on this and your '84 list. I'm a sucker for the slow start and the over the top finish (like Bowie on Heroes). The transition on I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man is super. Raspberry Beret is my favorite pop song so I'd say it's perfect too. The first verse in particular is perfect to me. The intro on Let's Go Crazy still excites me every time I listen to Purple Rain.

Great list. I admire you for even attempting this as his catalog is so vast there are bound to be criticisms for anyone who does so. I appreciated you including Black Muse, and Call My Name which is a top 5 Prince ballad for me. I also would’ve included Stare from phase II as I think it’s his best bass centric song post 2000. Others I would’ve included somewhere are: DMSR (which I knew you would’ve after your album review), All My Dreams and Cosmic Day from SOTT Super Delux (which don’t sound like anything in the rest of his catalog), and Love 2 The 9’s although Tony M’s participation in the 2nd half of the song almost kills it for me. Prince is so good on the first half that I can overlook it.

i just watched the whole video and then went to watch his superbowl performance cause i haven’t before. i think i might bately have 150 songs. i listened to everything up to Come. maybe i’ll listen to the gold experience and then make it. i am surprised you included hot thing and it which are my least favorite from sott, but you excluded i think 4 songs. i think the ones missing are housequake, forever in my life, it’s gonna be a beautiful night and i don’t know the 4th one. housequake will be decently high on my list. it’s going to be very hard to decide, but i’ll try to not overthink it

Still processing to be honest .. loving the love for Emancipation tracks .. however unkess i missed it my fave the final track on disc 3 The Love We Make would be in my all time top 10 but i guess its place onb the album might mean fatigue has well set in by then lol . Also having thought since I owned all the Cd's available I was doing ok .. but now youve opened me up to the expanded editions . not sure my bank manager will countenance such a thing . Also by the way . If anyone has any link with the Prince estate reissue Crystal Ball on CD.. some chancers are trying to charge $300 plus for a second hand copy!

"Dreamer" and "Black Sweat" were definitely both later period highlights for me. "Erotic City" is one of my favourite b-sides ever, when I read Sheila E's autobiography she SWEARS she's singing "funk" in that song but we all know better, like you said. I always found that so funny, I can't even hear "funk" if I try. Always love a good extended list!

I think Dez wanted to stay rock and not go more funk, but that is speculation. Dez had a lot to do with "When You (no U yet) Were Mine," one of my favorites.

The lyrics on the Greep album are from the perspective of a weirdo/incel-type. And instrumentally, I find it more interesting than any Prince album I've ever heard. 4/5 is actually too low of a score for this album, as it's more ambitious than basically anything else released in 2024. (My score: 4.5.)

@@TastesLikeMusic Not counting the 4 volumes of the Suitcase compilations (each containing 100 tracks of mostly demo-quality/unlistenable stuff), there are currently around 1000 GBV songs in existence. People exaggerate how many songs they have; Bob Dylan and Neil Young still have more albums, though Pollard is 66 and should surpass them. Robert Pollard also has 23 solo albums (all released between 1996-2016), and some of those tracks made their way onto my playlist, which means that my current playlist doesn't consist solely of GBV tracks (yes, I guess that's cheating). I haven't modified my GBV playlist since at least 2020, and the band has released a dozen albums since then, so I could probably reach 500 GBV songs by discarding the Pollard stuff and replacing it with GBV songs from the past 5 years. Pollard has also released tons of material in side-projects like the Boston Spaceships (definitely his best SP), Airport 5, Cash Rivers, Circus Devils, Cosmos, ESP Ohio, Mars Classroom, Acid Ranch (truly awful), Ricked Wicky, and many more. When you add all of that to the stats, I'm sure there are at least 3000 Pollard-related songs in the world today.

@@echosmyron1278 Echos - Instead of going into this sort of detail, why not press TLM to showcase a GBV album? I don't have any sway on here. You should explain why GBV are a great band, and being prolific is low on the list of praise to give Pollard. Though they might only be in my top 20, they could be higher. I was late for the sky to get into them and only know maybe 40 songs. I do see hell freezing over before TLM would play GBV; they would close shop rather than do a show. But you might have clout. My goodness, it is beyond the pale that we have to succumb to the worst of Dylan for years and tears (Churchill quote). If not for the vastly entertaining twosome - I am speaking of Joe and the memory of Krams - I wouldn't be onsite much.
