@@LibbyRal I recently read the book "The Palace Papers", I'm about 3/4 of the way through it, and I learned quite a bit about the lives of its most prominent players. And the one thing that I realize is that their lives are seldom their own. So yes, this must be a relief for Charles, but I don't think he really saw his life as a "sham". The decisions he made prior was simply his way of showing his devotion to the family, and I don't know if you can really "regret" a decision made based on service.

The reason his Grandmother Queen Elizabeth became Queen at such a young age is because her Uncle King Edward VIII decided to abdicate the throne for the love of his life, Wallis Simpson. The next in line was Elizabeth's father King George VI, when he died, it went to Elizabeth. Had Edward NOT abdicated and instead took another woman for his wife and had children, Charles would not be King today. TBH, if Edward had not abdicated after pressure from Parliament, they planned to remove him anyway and possibly do away with the Monarchy all together because Edward had been making side deals with the Nazis during WWII to allow them to take over the UK

Such a beautiful moment between King Charles and the Prince of Wales! You could see the love in Charles' eyes that he has for his son! It seems from a lot of the comments, people don't understand this part of the coronation is tradition. The Senior peer in attendance, gives this oath while holding the hand of the sovereign, then they stand, touch the crown and place s kiss on the left side of their cheek. The Duke of Edinburgh did this for Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Edward did it at the coronation of his Father King George V, and so on. King Charles chose a slimmed down coronation because after Prince William gave his oath, then tradition was all the Dukes would come forth, say their pledge, stand and touch the crown then kiss the ring. I'm betting he chose not to do this part because Harry is the Duke of Sussex. He would've been allowed to wear Duke regalia with a crown himself to show his status. The less camera time Harry gets, the better. Let him sit 3-4 rows back away from the family and away from publicly having contact with the King for a photo op.
